So the first one is a faster drying formula (not that new honestly) of the original Gorilla glue. I emailed them as I had concerns of the differences between the original and fast cure formula:
The Fast Cure Dries White Gorilla Glue is the same as the original Gorilla Glue (brown in the bottle) with 2 exceptions it dries the color white, it is 80% dry in about 1 hours (the original is 2 hours). Everything else is the same. We certainly value your business and hope that you will continue to use our family of Gorilla Glue products for all your gluing needs. If you have additional questions or concerns please do not hesitate to contact us. You may e-mail us at this address or contact us on our toll free number at 1-800-966-3458 (USA and Canada only) or 513-271-3300. We are open Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. EDT. Sincerely, Corrye Lampkin Gorilla Support Group P: (513) 271-3300 P: (800) 966-3458 F: (513) 527-3742 They have also added an Epoxy and some CA glues to their line up. I have yet to try the Epoxy but its worth a shot.

I have used Gorilla Glue in the past and only didnt like the fact that I at times tend to use too much and then spend much time wiping around the hinges but it works very well.
I am not sure I would want to use the White stuff as I dont think I would want it to cure that quick but if one needed to make a repair it would seem to be ideal....

There is a very simple trick that I have posted to avoid any clean up using Gorilla glue. I can post it again and it is very effective. This applies to all hinging applications.

First you want to gather everything you need. Here I have my Gorilla glue, some water, blue painter's tape, WD 40, hobby knife, prop reamer (counter sink hinge knuckles), and an old piece of control rod.
You will want to get all your hinge knuckles lubed with either a shot of WD40, 3 in 1 oil, or Vaseline. This prevents the glue from sticking to the knuckles and will help your surface move freely. 1. Test fit all your hinges and make sure you get a full deflection with you surfaces. You may need to also counter sink the hinge holes to ensure the hinge knuckle fits properly. 2. After you have done this tape around your hinge hole. Make sure to have up to a half inch past the hole to account for the glue expanding/foaming. When and if it does it will stick to the tape and not your plane!! 3. Cut a hole using your hobby knife for the hinge itself. This should leave a hole just large enough for the hinge to fit in. Make sure the tape is securely fastened to the plane's surfaces so glue can't get under the tape. Wipe down the surfaces with some WD 40 or something similar. This will ensure any glue that gets past the tape wont stick to your plane. 4. Place a few drops of water in each hinge hole - this helps the adhesive bond. Place a few drops of gorilla glue in each hinge hole - I just drop it in or you can use a toothpick to make sure it gets in ok. 5. Place the hinges in the control surface and then mate them to the flying surface. Make sure you can get FULL control deflection. 6. Make sure you tape the surfaces at a full deflection; this gets you a full range of motion and a tight hinge gap. 7. Once the glue is dry remove the tape. Any glue that got on the tape will come off with the tape. If any should get on your plane the WD40 or oil you wiped on it should mean it comes off. You can usually get the glue that sticks to the hinge knuckles off easily. Too easy and no more mess using this method

Never ever spend the money for Gorilla glue. Elmer's Ultimate Polyurethane glue is the exact same thing and half the price.

i like to sheet my balsa/foam wings with elmer's utlimate. it seems to have a tad longer "workable" period than the gorilla.... other than that, it seems just the same! i'm a big fan of the elmers!

The hinging works the same regardless of what brand of the glue you go with. To my knowledge Elmers does not have a version of fast drying glue similar to the Gorilla glue product. I would much rather pay a bit more to quicken the hinge process up.

All it takes to quicken the process is a little misting with water. You go ahead and buy the expensive stuff though.

I have been using the gorilla glue for a long time and swear by it. the white is awesome and the ca is really good to. and it will dry with kicker also. the cool thing about gorilla glue ca is ulike regular ca that kinda bubbles up when you hit it with kicker it you putt alot on something this stuff just instantly sets up with zero bubbling. the white i like for hinging. the pee yellow gorilla glue works awsome but would stain your covering this white will not. and I have a trick for it also. when you get vacaline to put in your hing get you finger just a little bit greasy and wipe it down the hinge line. VERY VERY LITTLE AMOUNTS just enough to make the covering slick and that is it. then put all the glue you like in your hinge holes and what bubbles out will just flick off it a small rod or something b/c it can not grab ahold to the covering. super easy and works great. the whit sets up in like liek 30 minutes and will start to expand in like five minutes if that long. I usually set out on a plate and it will not start to expand until it get with the water or at least not really fast so I wet the wood and put it in with a small paint brush you can get in bulk for like water color painting. I by the ca all the time. and its cheaper
i will post some picks later tonight of the white stuff when I was hinging with it. |

Hmm...I like the sound of the fast curing stuff. Might try it next time.

Yeah with the hinge line Vaseline method - I more or less do the same thing with either WD 40, 3 in 1 oil, or similar.
I learned this early on when hinging planes. I will have to give the CA glue a go! Sounds better than some of the other CA's for the reason you mentioned. |
