You wouldn't regret it. The Zlin was effectively a Zlin fuse with Runaround wings, tail, and overall planform. Excellent overall layout and force moments.

And now that I think about it, the EMC2 was just a big Runaround too!

This is my Dad's Zlin. Still looks this good 19 years later.

Ahhhh yes.....but the ones they do not make anymore (2 strokes) are the ones you set and forget!

I can not remember how the pipe mounted on the Zlin. That is another thing I like about a Tipo.....just slap the wing on.....the pipe stays put on the fuse.

I'm wondering whether you can still get Dicks Dalotel? I've always liked the lines of that airplane and cant find one for the life of me.

The Dalotel was flown by Hanno Pretner at the TOC in 1980 which was the only one I attended, and yes he won and this was the largest entry at that time, Here is a picture of him and his airplane I took while there, a real gentleman...

Dick never built a fiberglass fuse for the Dalotel, only a balsa fuse version. He also never generated any plans, except for the planes he published in Model Builder (Tiporare and Runaround). He builds on top of a sheet of masonite with lines drawn it, and uses templates cut from masonite. They are all still hanging on the wall in his basement workshop. I agree with you on the Dalotel, it was fabulous. Of course the Zlin is very similar, using the same wing, stab, and rudder as the Dalotel. The wings and stab were borrowed from the Runaround.

The glass fuse on the Zlin is beautiful, has panel lines, rivets, and the vertical stab molded in.

Joe Bridi kitted Hanno's Dalotel, with about 84" ws. I bought the kit about 7 years ago, but sold it a bit later. I copied the plans but can't find them now. I think it would be perfect with a 50cc gas engine. Hanno's plane used two (Webra?) .60 engines geared to the prop shaft, but Joe Bridi's kit was based on whatever big nitro engine was available at the time (OPS 30cc?).

Dick built a number of those Dalotels ranging from the .60-powered plane Chip Hyde flew in the ~84 Nats to .91 and 1.20-powered planes and many 50cc-size, but my very favorite were the 3 80cc planes he built. Basically it was a 100" ws, 20#, retractable gear, IMAC-legal pattern plane. ZERO coupling (and I mean ZERO COUPLING!!), excellent snap/stall/tracking characteristics, etc. I unfortunately passed on the opportunity to buy one a few years ago and have regretted it ever since.
Here is a pic of one, I think it was a 50cc, but it might be his 80cc (I can't read the prop).

**EDIT** This plane is one he build for a piped ZDZ 60cc engine.

If I'm not mistaken, Hanno was using twin geard Super Tiger 90's, but I could be wrong..

A good friend of mine had a Hanson Dalotel on floats with an OS 108. What a nice flyer. You gotta love the canopy. I e-mailed Rich to see if there is anyway to get a Zlin. I am keeping my fingers crossed!

Good call on the Geared ST .90s
I think that was his go to setup for the Dalotel, Skybolt and Laser.

The good ole" days.....when a knife edge spin was called "The Hanno Screw"!

cheers

If anyone has had the opportunity to see Hanno fly , it was magic, no one came close to him..

I swear this guy had a direct link from his brains/fingers to the cockpit...

And when I spoke to him and his father for the picture, he was the most down to earth nice guy and his father also ...

Yeah my dad had a Bridi Dalotel with a BGX in it but he lost it when the reciever battery shorted. I would love to find a 50cc size one. I'm getting real tired of yaks, edges, caps and extras and want something different but have no ability to build so I'm kinda stuck.

Another classic pattern plane that is again being kitted is Don Lowe's Phoenix 1. Link here: http://www.earlyrcmodels.com/id16.html

Dan Hines at Carolina Custom Aircraft (Deadstick on "the other forum", can't remember his emal address now) kits the Brushfire, Patricia, Tanglefoot, New Orleanian, T2A MKII, Conquest VII, and I think Wayne Ulery's EU-1A. They are all glass fuse/foam wing kits.

For those who like the "older" old-school planes, check out the great kits at Home and Hobby Solutions. They have laser-cut kits for the Primus (Ed Kazmirski's Taurus), Qwic-Fly (Phil Kraft's Kwik-Fli), and a beautiful King Altair (Ed Kazsmirski). see here: https://www.homeandhobbysolutions.co...ane%20Kits.htm

For those who like scratch building this site is an outstanding source: http://www.trentonrcflyers.com/patte...structions.htm

George, speaking of the Tipo, I believe WK hobbies made all the glass fuses for the plane even when Great Planes kitted it.

Still no e-mail back from Rich. Keeping my fingers crossed for a Slim Zlin. I think it would be a good candidate for a YS 110 or an O.S. 110.
