Does anybody knows why my Saito 125 everytime I give crank with my starter it stops, my starter cant crank it and i cant get it running, as if it is too much compression. And manually with my hand i can do it turn around but i cant get it running. And my starter works perfectly because i can get running another indenthical saito 125 without a problem.
Any ideas? Thanks! |

Another thing is that your battery that you are using for the supply of the starter motor may not have enough power behind it to start the Saito 125. Especially if the motor is new. If you have one of the portable booster boxes or a car/boat battery handy, hook your starter motor to that and I bet you will find that it has no problems turning the Saito over.

First, Get rid of the habit of using the starter motor ! It is so simple to start a well tuned saito that it is ridiculous to pick up your starter. The saito wants to be just a touch rich on the idle circuit. The saito also wants to be "WHETTED" or have a good prime ! Then, with two or three fingers, throw the prop back wards into the compression, NOT through the compression. The saito will fire if all is in order. Mine starts with one throw as described every time. I don't use starter motors, chicken sticks, or gloves ! I do take some 600 grit and dull the edges of the blade so they are smooth and dull, that way I don't get a drag cut (done before balancing). One thing to note is that the angle of your carb in relation to the intake port is critical for priming ! Mine has a bit of down slope to it so I lift the wing and get an angle so fuel will get into cylinder as I pull it through a few times, Then apply the glow driver to the "four cycle plug" and back flip it hard 1/4 turn into the compression stroke and listen to it start popping ! It helps if the prop is set so that if you slowly rotate back wards up to a soft touch against compression the prop is horizontal. Then, back it up to vertical for the throw !

Before putting the electric starter on the engine, bring the prop clockwise to compression. That way the starter will get a running start.

I had a Saito 180 that started much better after I reset the rocker arms to spec.

If you have a throttle cut feature on your radio then set it to kill the engine after you fly, this will typically bring the throttle back beyond the point where the engine will get fuel or air. No air or fuel reduces the compression. Now when you begin to start the engine, if you have a partner to help, begin trying to crank the engine with the throttle cut engaged, once the engine starts to turn over with the starter, release the throttle cut to normal idle setting, the engine should fire, as the engine wears in some you may not need to continue this method, some new engines are tighter then others.
