Default Austin, TX Giant Scale event photos

Haven't been flying much, but spent a few days out at the Austin ARCA giant scale event last weekend, August 28th and 29th. Took a bunch of photos, edited it down to 78. Here is the link to the album: http://www.rc-tvproductions.com/port...rca/index.html

Just a few previews:

This thing used to be control line:

Building a 55%'er.....I actually forgot about it until friday night, but we already had our goals in mind for progress, therefore we decided to not go. Besides, I only have the big yak and dont like risking it at events.

Got invited to a weekday flying session out at Tommy Jacomini's ranch near Round Top. There were about a dozen of us that flew our socks off all day. Manny brought out this PT-19 and flew it a couple of times and then asked if I'd like to give it a shot....... Does a fat baby poop? I put in a couple a flights with it using the flaps and all the power that inline 150 had to offer. Very realistic and the 60 pounds plus weight was not even a factor. It was extremely light on the sticks and practically landed itself with those big flaps in the down position. It was originally built by Dick Schively of Houston and hung in the old EJ's Hobby Shop in Memorial City Mall for years. Manny did a complete recover and paint job on it and it is a real beauty. It is really hard to believe it was a CONTROL LINE plane at one time. (The large brass outlets for the control line cables are still in the left side of the fuse!) I don't remember the wingspan but somewhere around 13 or 14 feet rings a bell. When I flew it past myself, I could feel the rush of air around me! The day was capped off with all us friends having a great steak dinner at JW's Steak House in beautiful uptown Carmine, Texas. Yep.......... It's a shameless plug but the friends and food just couldn't go unmentioned!

PS: That cowl door likes to come loose and go to the upright position...... The engine sure stays cool that way!

Oh man; I remember that PT-19 in EJ's. Used to go that hobby shop when I first got started in r/c. He also had a picture of someones kid sitting in the cock pit...
Would like to see it fly someday.
