Default Aeroworks 35% Edge 540 ARF-QB

I picked up one of the new Aeroworks 100cc Edge 540's a couple of weeks ago.
I live an hour away from Aeroworks, so I picked it up in person. I was told that they've done some additional lightening to the airframe, so I'm curious as to what it will end up weighing.

I've got a BME 116 engine coming for this plane. This will be my 3rd BME 116 purchase. The engine choice for 35% airframes is an easy one for me. I want the engine to be light, and I want it to be powerful. The BME 116 is the best of its class in both of these categories. It is the lightest and most powerful engine in its class.
The induction problems that used to be present on the old 115 engines have been fixed, and the customer service provided from the new owners is outstanding.

I thought about doing an assembly thread on this plane, but these QB airframes are so easy to put together, I'm not sure that it's necessary.
I just thought it might be nice to start a thread where those of us that have these planes now can share some ideas.
I may do a partial assembly thread, posting info on anything I do that varies from the "stock" assembly, and posting any info that I think may be of interest to others.

What do you guys think? Anyone else out there assembling this plane right now?

I've got the orange one. It will be a good Halloween plane. I think I'm going to name it "Pumpkin".
I'll post some pics soon.

First tip/suggestion:

I'm putting the servos and linkages in the wings right now.
I found that the supplied 3" aileron linkages are not long enough for my taste. When setting them up I ended up with only about 1/4" of thread engaged in each ball link. This may be O.K., but I prefer more thread engagement than that. I don't want my ball links to pull out due to minimal thread engagement.

Fortunately, I had some 3-1/2" titanium pro-links on hand, and they fit good, providing about 1/2" of thread engagement in each ball link.

Was this plane designed for pipes at all? Or just for cannisters?

I'm a stock muffler guy, so I'm not the best one to answer that question, but the plane does have a cannister tunnel in it.
I believe pipes are longer, correct? I'm not sure if the pipes would fit without modification.

Pipes will not fit in the stock tunnel, it can be extended easily to allow pipes to fit.

One more question, Mark.

There are 12 control horn mounting screws that are shorter than the others, are these shorter screws for the rudder or elevators?

Thanks, Jim

Ha Ha
Give me a little more time than that. I won't get the engine until early next week.

Hey Jim,

On my Extra, the 12 short screws turned out to be for the rudder. Probably the same for you.

First post here

Thanks Mark,
I was thinking they were probably for the rudder, but wanted to make sure.

Congrats on your first post!
