Default Most efficient / lightest motors ??

HI everyone, I was wondering what is the best motors going these days are for something around 18 amps constant. I want to replace the Park 480 I have in my Extra with something a little smaller so I can use my 1200 lipos. The park 480 is pretty heavy at 3.1 Oz's and can do 20 amps constant.

I was looking at some Scorpion motors and there is a motor there that will do the same 20 amps but is an Ounce lighter. Sounds too good to be true? I havent been following the new stuff for the last year, so I was hoping someone would already know the answer Is Hacker and Axi still the best you can get at a reasonable price? Any info would be appreciated, thanks in advance!

Bob

Scorpions seem to be about the best you can get at a cheap price. The plettenbergs are always nice and super efficient. Neu makes a good high end motor. Hacker is good. Lehner is good.

I've always had good luck with the Axi golds. Run some pretty small motors at WAY over spec happily in burst (3d) mode. Have some Hacker carbon FAI motors that take tremendous power for their weight, a little pletty that does great as well.

If you keep the chinese stuff in spec it seems to do well. You can cut weight with batteries etc. The scorpions seem good in terms of efficiency, but sometimes puke bearings. Definitely a contender in the value/efficiency bracket. For the buck the little eflight motors seem to do decent, I have a few that are well abused and still surviving well.

My axi 2212/26 has been happy around 20A for years and still going strong at 57g.

Good luck, no need to go crazy on high dollar motors for park fliers. Buy two or more smaller, lighter, stronger packs and fly with better power to weight for less $$.

Mike

You could try a Park 450-890.

Don't forget www.neumotors.com .

A diy wound motor/kit, will have higher efficiency and a higher power/weight ratio than the same factory wound motor. More/thicker copper in the slots.

Kits:
