Default Questions about a .65 glow engine

Hi everyone, I bought this .65 2c glow engine about 15 years ago and its still sitting in the box lol. I know nothing about glow power, but I have been flying electrics for quite awhile. Couple questions..

Whats the heaviest 3D plane I can hang on this thing?
Do you think the engine will even run right anymore? Should I bench test it first or just buy a plane
What plane would you recommend for all out 3D with a .65 2c size engine..

Heres a plane I was looking at, what is everyones opinion on this bird?

Any and all information no matter how condesending it might be will be greatly appreciated!

Bob

Hey Bob, a friend of mine started a Glow engine that he had resting on his garage for 15 years. It started perfectly and flew perfect too. If there is no rust, no problem. If it has never started then you have to break-in it.

BTW, you have a very nice family and I can see you are very proud of too, I also have a boy and a girl. I feel so complete and happy.

Good luck with your new engine!~

Alf.

Check out a Hanger 9 Twist. I have a Super Tigre .61 on it with a Master Air Screw Classic 12x8 prop. What a blast!

Hey Bob

I'd worry about a 3D plane weighing 6 Lbs. running on a 65 2 stroke.
If you don't mind building a little, try a Mojo 40, that should really come to life on a 65 2 stroke.

Best Regards

Thanks for the ideas guys, I probably should have mentioned that I'd like to keep to a "real" plane. I'm guessing that electric planes wouldnt be able to handle the vibrations from a glow engine? The reason I ask is that I've got a 50" SA Edge thats only 2 lbs with 450 sq. in's of wing. From what Eblenkle is saying anything under 5.5 lbs is ok? Thanks again..

What motor is that you have? It might make a lot of difference on how much power you have to work with. I know the old K&B 65s with the bushing crank weren't known to be powerhouses.

For some reason the K&B .65 is the only 2-stroke glow I can think of. The Saito .65 four stroke being the only other .65 I can think of. By the way, LOVE the Saitos on a five foot plane.

Probably not for the 3-D crowd though.

I'm not sure what brand it is, I'll have to check it out next time I'm at the shop. I'm starting to think that maybe a good quality profile is the way to go with this engine. I cant seem to find any scale type birdy thats a good match. Thanks for the link to the Chinn Yak

That would be relatively "new" engine though.
