Default Li-po pack in my X9303?

I've been running a 3 cell li-po pack in my X9303 for the past year without issues. I can go the whole month of flying without having to re-charge.

However, I have always been a little concerned about running a pack that is at 12.5V fully charged and re-charge when it gets down around 11.8V. The stock battery is a 9.6V Nimh pack that is 11.0V when fully charged, but is only good for a couple days of flying before re-charge.

I asked JR tech support this question and received this reply:

"The JR 9303 radio is not intended to be used with a lithium polymer battery. Using a 11.1 lithium polymer batter can potentially cause damage to your transmitter, therefore I strongly advise you to use one of the approved batteries."

Anyone else running a li-po in your X9303? Any thoughts?

some people are using lipo's but installing a diode or drop resistor to bring down the voltage. if you run to high of voltage in the transmitter the built in reg will not drop the voltage down enough. to high of voltage on printed circuit boards and attached resistors and such can let the magic smoke out. that can be very very bad. go to radio shack and get a dropping resistor or a diode the brings the voltage down alittle and solder it inline of the positive wire and you will be all set.

I would say that as long as the built in regulator does not burn up you will be OK. Only time will tell.

I have been running li-po's in both my 9303 transmitter's for 3 years now and no issues the only thing I have noticed is that while setting up a 40% and leaving it on for a long period of time the module will get warm..,, mine are the Commonsense 2500 11.1 pack and these are going on the fourth year now ,,

I did a compromise. Bought Kodak 2500 nimh cells and a radio shack holder. Got the extended run time without over voltage issues all for 22 bucks...

i have been running a lipo in my JR 9X with 2.4 gig module for over 6 months now and all seems great. i was considering the fitting of a Diode but really when you think on this, Diodes can break down and if they do you have no power atall.

ummm there are several diode's on your printed circuit board, resistors and transitors. all can fail.

There is a greater chance that the connection between my brain and my thumbs will fail before anything else in my transmitter or plane. All of my crashes have been due to this, not my equipment.

The lipo pack I use is a Dualsky 2500mah 3 cell w/ built-in balancer. Made in China (aren't they all?) and found at my LHS for $50. Half dozen or so guys at my field use the same pack. I think they all are flying FM radios though.

I talked with one of the JR guys who told me they will work. But it will shorten the life of you radio and will void your warranty. The problem is that the radio has to deal with the extra voltage this develops more heat and strain on your components. My point is that with the newer 2500 mah nickel metal batteries out there you can go several days with out charging. Yes that’s not a month but is it really that big of a deal to plug it into a charger you still have to charge the batts for your plane. Just my .02

Did you just solder the connector from the old battery on to the radio shack holder or did it come with one that would work????

I went one step further and removed the sub board that the original battery plugged into, the one that holds the 3A fuse for the radio. I removed that mating connector from the sub board so the 8 cell holder would sit down inside the rear tx case and the door would close properly. I soldered a standard 9V snap connector to the sub board to connect to the holder so I can remove the pack for charging.
