Default IMAC Katana

I dont see Katana's in competition. Is this because of the 10% rule or general flying tendancies, or something else I don't know about?

There was a year that everyone was flying them in competition! And there are still TONS of the Katanas out there! Which plane are you referring to the KRILL? IF so then yes it allowed in IMAC! They are just EXPENSIVE! Ok hope that helps! Good luck!

Not the krill in particular, I just noticed the 260, 300, and yak54 domination. I will be starting in basic next season, and have a cheap 50cc nitroplanes katana that i wasn't sure that i could use in maybe sportsman.

I was looking at the 50cc Carf Extra but is seemed like i would still have to do a pretty good amount of work after the $750 (unpainted).
I'll stick with balsa for now i guess.

i havent notice many composite airplanes in are region also. i did ask once and i was told that they aren't as precise as a wood airframe. just what i heard. i have seen a small one at columbus but that was it.

All in all, I prefere wood airframes as they generaly fly better. They're easier to repair too. The Katanas fly very well, and I enjoyed flying one, but the Extras, and Yaks are IMO even better for IMAC/freestyle.
Just my $0.02

Well I'm just going to throw this out there, I've been flying composite planes for the past 4 or so years, and I have flown many built up planes as well, and can say without a doubt in my mind, the composites fly much more consistently and precisely. As for easier to repair, we recently had an experience after traveling to Germany to fly in a airshow, the freight company broke the plane clean in half, right behind the canopy. 2 hours later the plane was ready to fly again and is still flying today. Here in Australia the composites are THE most popular plane, but the built up planes are growing in popularity. Mainly due to price.

My $0.02

Chris B.

I flew my Aeroworks Katana for the last two seasons and loved it.
