Wow!! What a day! What a location, what a CROWD!
I am at the 2009 D.O.G.S. Airshow at the national Museum of the United States Air Force in Dayton, Ohio. This is the 14Th year of this show hosted by the Dayton Ohio Giant Scalers. And every year I am in awe of the magnitude of this event. The field is amazing and HUGE!! I am amazed each year when I pull in the gates just how big this complex is. There is nothing better than flying off a Air Force base with a real Air Force runway. Then there is the open ground as far as the eyes can see, and beyond that, huge WWII planes awaiting restoration for the museum. When it comes to a giant scale fun fly It really doesn't get much better than this! Also,a big shout out to Jim Bourke and the Knife Edge guys, their version of this field in G4.5 is completely spot on! The D.O.G.S. fly-in is a wonderful mix of every style of giant scale RC airplane. Acrobats, war birds, jets, WWI biplanes, helicopters, basically if it flys and is big, you can bring it! I usually do not fly with Jets in the air, and I have to say, that is an interesting feeling to be doing a slow HA Knife Edge pass, and have a Jet whizz past you at 199.999999999 mph. It definitely takes a few flights to get used to that! Today the crowd was rather lite today (probably 500+ as most folks are working and a Friday afternoon, but tomorrow we expect to see thousands. In past years the crowds have topped thirty thousand people! So, if your in the area, or if your on your way here, get ready, tomorrow promises to be a spectacular day! See you all in the AM!
