Hi guys,
I just purchased a Pilot-Rc Yak, along with a DLE-30 engine. I am thinking about setting it up with A123 pack for power, but after reading here all day I am lost. Hopefully you guys can point me in the right direction. 1. I currently have a Duratrax Onyx charger, and a Triton. Will these work for balance charging the A123s, or should I pick up another charger. If so any recommendations? 2. I plan on switching over to 2.4ghz Radio, when the Hitec Aurora becomes available. Will I be able to run ignition, and receiver off of one A123 pack?. How can i set this up simply, so that I can balance charge pack off of charge port on fuse? 3. Does anyone custom build packs with extra leads? Do I need Deans connectors, or will the Futaba J style work? I will be running hitec 645mg analog servo's to start with, then will proably upgrade to digital s. I am about as sharp as a marble when it comes to these A123s, and want to avoid leaving Mah, and ghz laying all over the field. Thanks |

2. Technically, yes, many run one pack and swear by it, many others do not recommend it. There is also the voltage on the ignition to worry about. CH Ignition who sells a version of the RCEXL ignition recommends 4.8 volts, so I run an separate pack, more security, no regulator. Most all will recommend NOT running a single pack if you are still on 72. 2 & 3, For planes this size, I wire them using HD servo extensions cut and soldered to the battery pack to make power / balance charge connectors. Make an adapter for your charger using the other half of the extension. You then pull the third wire from the receiver connector and using an A123 is exactly like using any other battery. If you aren't comfortable soldering up packs, NoBS batteries will do the same thing for you... http://www.hangtimes.com/a123_rx_packs.html Either way, make sure you pull the third wire from the receiver connector or you run the risk of frying a receiver. For a 25% plane with the servos you mention, this is a good set up. Larger I would go to Deans. Good luck ! Jason |

Jason,
Thanks for the info, that pretty much covers everything. I think for the price i will just pick up the cell pro4. I'm pretty sure the onyx I bought, will charge but not balance A123's, I would take a look but I am on the other side of the planet. Thanks |

here is a new product to eliminate the need for a separate ignition battery, to help keep the weight down.
WRC Wike R/C Products IBEF Ignition Battery Eliminating Filter http://www.troybuiltmodels.com/items/WRCIBEF.html and a thread started on flying giants for it. my friend is about to install and run one. http://www.flyinggiants.com/forums/f...tle-thing.html and i run the balance lead as a jr servo plug, into an extension pluged into this charge port to gain access without taking the plane apart. i use the cellpro charger, and always balance charge all my batts. http://www.horizonhobby.com/Products...?ProdID=ERN147 |

I came acorss the battery elimanator, after my first post, it looks like it would be a good thing for my setup, I wonder if it works on 72mhz?
I'd like to get the Hitec Aurora, but it keeps getting bumped back. Any of you Canucks on here, know where to buy a Cellpro charger in Canada? |
