Default Castor nitro fuel- 4 gallons for 30 bucks...should I buy it?? need advise, never use

Hey guys,

I have an old friend that found an old old box in the garage that has 4 un-opened gallons of castor based 15% nitro fuel. I am currently out of fuel to fly my GP cherokee ARF, which I put a thunder tiger .46 in it which has only seen coolpower synthetic. Anyways, I have never used castor nitro fuel, and was wondering if anyone knew from experiance if running 4 gallons through a .46 - 2 cycle engine would be enouph to have to clean the shelak/varnesh/gunk that I've read builds up in the engine after running castor? 4 gallons for 30 bucks is a steal...I'm just being lazy, and don't like the sound of haveing to open the engine and clean her out and if I end up having to do so.... I'd like to know if anyone could tell me from their experiance, about how often I would have todo so. If I get these 4 gallons, I'd prob switch back to synthetic or try a 50/50 mix after I use them up.

Thanks,

Chris

firstly you really need to test sample say a tank full in your engine, to make sure the fuel still has some punch about it as it could have gone off. if it works ok what you should do if your worried about straight castor oil build in the engine is mix one galloon of this fuel with one gallon of your synthetic fuel mix . as far as i am concerned, castor based fuel is better than synthetic fuels . i run straight castor in my TT PRO 46 pylon engines and they love it.

If the fuel containers have been sealed and are not leaking then the stuff is still good. I opened up a 20 year old gallon jug of 20% and it works fine. I also had a 20 year old 1/8 full jug and it worked good too. i ran it through a couple of engines to test the engines and no problems.'

What ruins fuel is for the container to leak or long term exposure to sunlight. When the container leaks the alcohol content percentage changes and if exposed to air the alcohol absorbs moisture. Thus the fuel can start to go bad. But if it is still sealed up then the stuff is good to use.

Nothing wrong with castor oil just messy. Will take a lot to varnish up an engine. The fuel should be good if it is sealed and kept in a some what temperate environment. For old glow fuel I used I have mixed it with 20 % or so fresh fuel.
