The crankcase tap is just a drain for all the goooo these things make. Run a hunk of fuel line from it to the outside of your airframe. Make it long enough to fasten to the landing gear for a cleaner fuse........................

The crankcase vent nipple is also the only way to get oil into the case to protect the bearings. I use dexron ATF and none of my eng's have any bottom end problems. Two or three gulps of oil and they are set, I do this to a brand new motor before running as well, coats inside and help prevent condensation.

I'm flying a Primo 60 with a 115 using an APC 16X4W at about 9100rpm...nice 3D combo.

You aint seen nothing yet. Saito uses the worst bearings I have ever seen. I have replaced all my Saitos' bearings. Just a heads up. Other then that they are nice engines but I'll stick with my YSs'..............................

I am a big fan of YS but I don't agree with that statement at all. Saito engines are wonderful and will last forever if properly cared for. I have Saitos that make more power now than they did 4 or 5 years ago and have never had a problem.

That said - YS engines are amazing as well.

In regards to the prop, the Saitos (smaller ones at least) love the APC props. I would stick with APC.

I've heard so many lame excuses over the years about bad bearings in the hobby that I've really become quite cynical. The plain and simple facts are that burning fuel leaves corrosive affluents behind which attack the steal cage in the bearing and quickly eat away at it. Any plain steel will be attacked with the acids that form. It is imperative that we add oil to the motors in such a way that it gets into the crankcase and coats the bearings. Back in bushing days it was the Castor which sealed and lubricated the bushings and kept the motor running. These days the two strokes like a drink of oil to intake which will usually get into the bearings if enough oil is used. The four strokes won't infuse oil into case from the intake at all so it must be drawn into the case via the vent. It must be done deliberately. If not the only thing you have left to do is change Eng's bearings and complain ! The very least you could do is come up with some new excuses to keep us old timers entertained !

I doubt that you are any more an oldtimer then I am but be that as it may, I am only mentioning my experience with Saitos. I like them, but the bearings are less then the best. I have replaced bearings in my 72, and two 100s and they have been just fine ever since. I have never had to replace bearing in my YS's. Yes it goes without saying that they require proper care including after run oil but bad bearings are bad bearings. Of course, as always, your experience may be different then mine.................................

About props on a Saito...... If you put an APC on your Saito, Make sure you use a "6" pitch. Sound funny? Nah...... I have found that for all around flying and getting a good idle on a Saito, just use a "6" pitch on your APC prop. Saito 180? 17-6.... Saito 125? 16-6....Saito 100? 15-6....Saito 91? 14-6....... Saito 82? 13-6......... Saito 72? 12-6...... Saito 65? 12-6 .......Saito 56? 11-6..... Saito 30? 10-6........... Lycoming 360? Don't use an APC! (Pullin' yer leg a bit on that last one! LOL!)

that's kind of a rule of thumb at our field as well. saitos get a "6" pitch and the YS's get an "8". it pretty much works across the board.
