Saito 82? 13-6......... Saito 72? 12-6...... Saito 65? 12-6 .......Saito 56? 11-6..... Saito 30? 10-6........... Lycoming 360? Don't use an APC! (Pullin' yer leg a bit on that last one! LOL!)

is that due to you flying them in scale aircraft ? my profile will come unhinged at speeds over 50mph, all the controls flutter thats why i been using the 4 pitch

Ya, that's the problem with "general rules", they don't work for everything. On my profile I run a 14-4 on my Saito 72, that's an Xoar by the way, and made of wood. On my YS110 I run a 17-4 also Xoar. But profiles are different animals and don't fit into the "general rules" category. I run a 16-6 APC on my YS110 mounted in my Velox, a fattie, and it seems perfect. I'm at sea level by the way. I have found that trying a bunch of different props is the only way to find the right match. No general rules needed.

Scale? Yeah...... If you are doing profiles, you drop to 3 & 4 inch pitch and go up a couple on diameter. Forgot about you skinny boys! LOL! In talking about the 6" pitch as a general, all it does is help the idle characteristics a bunch. Try running a wood prop the same as any APC size and the flywheel effect just won't be there and you'll get a lot of dead stick time. My quotes are just a good starting point. I see guys running 8-10" pitch or more and they can't figure out why they can't get the plane to stand still on a paved runway, even at their lowest idle speed. I have a dozen Saitos and need more! Love 'em!

thats a good point , I have been using both APC and Xoar found to realy like the Xoar. tried a Zinger once and everything vibed , put it on ballancer and could not ballance it ended up removing 7mm from one tip , ***? hole was drilled off center , couple buddies at the field must have bought the same batch from zinger and all theirs were bad also. I have some APC 15/4 and Xoar 15/4 coming this week and will give them a try.

I have some old Zingers I'll still fly on older, non-ignition motors. They are great for that but after finding out about Mezlics, Xoars, etc. I'll stick with them on the DA and 3W motors I have. Not brand-bashing but technology has moved on and there are better things out there. I'm betting Zinger will do a re-design one day and we'll all be scrambling for those "new style" Zingers!

We used the rule of 6 inch pitch back in the 80's.... it didn't work very good then, and things haven't changed.

I guess it still works with plain bushing engines with baffles, but I don't know of anyone using one now.

I thing the rule now is get all the info you can from people using the same engine on the same type plane and fine tune your prop selection from that.

I got mine , fa115 Saito replacement from Horizon on friday and put 12 flights on it yesterday then another 4 this morning before bumping the needle a bit, I was showing 9500rpm with the
15/4W-apc prop and flew another 10 flights , if I lean it a bit more it showed 10,500 no problem but figured the 9500 setting was ok for now. since friday this engine has burned 1.3 gallons of 20/20 and is a blast to fly , it idles down to almost nothing and during flat spins and blenders you cant tell its running. awsome peice of machinery, my first 4 stroke Saito 115 and its a keeper, after 30+ years of RC this is a cheater engine that makes flying effortless.

Recently a regular flyer at the local field was at the hobby store looking for a 4 stroke engine for his .90 size airplane. I told him Saito 1.25. Well he chose a cheaper 4 stroke engine (the brand I will not mention). Well this weekend he had nothing but problems and did not get a single flight in and had one takeoff that the engine died on and tore the landing gear out. I had one word to say to him = SAITO

I highly recomend a 115 Saito or if you want even more banger get the 125 but for my 90's I will use the 115 due to its low weight and ample power.
