Hi Don,
I'm building a Fiberclassics 40% Extra 330 DA 150 on stadard Mufflers JR 12x A123 batteries 4 JR 8711's ailerons 3 JR 8711's mounted in a SWB tray 8611a for throttle 2 or 4 8711's for elevators My question.....should I run 2 or 4 servos in the elevators? I am looking for the very best in performance, reliability and durabilty with cost not a factor. This is a very early production kit with huge surfaces. My friends think I'm nuts to want to put 4 servos in the tail of this plane...what do you think? I will fly mostly for fun but will also fly 1 or 2 IMAC events in Sportsman Thanks Last edited by rcalbuquerque; 09-08-2009 at 12:56 PM. |

You can get by with 2 8711's on elevators if he balances them. But if he needs tail weight then I would look into adding additional servos.

Not looking to get by......I am leaning toward 2 per half but need a little nudge to make it happen.

Yes for my fiberclassics Extra 330 I am using two 8411 servos per elevator half. This is adequate for all flying applications and believe it gives some extra positive control for pattern flying. These servos were installed in 2002 and still working well. As a second reference point I use one 8611 on each elevator half of my Radiowave Extra 300.

By the way, I did not realize Fiber Classics was still around. Are you doing the CA or FC?

Don
It's a early production Fiberclassics Extra 330 . I have decided to go with a single 8711 and see how it works out. |

1 8711 per elevator on my 120" QQ Yak. No problems.
I'd go with 1 unless you can't achieve the correct CG by moving other stuff around... Seth

Going 1 8611a or 8711 on my 42% Dalton 300.

1 servo is fine. Keep the linkage tight and check everything every so ofter (including servo screws... don't ask how I know). Besides, even with one stab half missing these things fly good
Only thing I would suggest would be no full power dives to show your buds how fast this draggy thing can go...lol.

Am glad to hear of your decision. That will work great for you. The more you fly it the better it feels in the air. There seems to be a coincidental trend in this area for folks going back to the 3 meter Comp Arf 330.

I just bought a Comp-ARF Super Xtra, and the plan is for One 8711 for each elv. Two 8711s for each Ail. (one inboard and one outboard, stock is two inboard, i'm doing the optional Comp-ARF mod for this). And three 8711s in either the stock tray or an SWB. I think this set-up is plenty for all types of flying, though mine will be strictly IMAC (Sportsman for 2010) One inch servo arms and the stock phenolic control horns on the surfaces (not sure of the length of those yet) for all but the rudder. For that basicly all i can get for the hammer and snap, and expo and rates to dampen for flight and rolling (thoughts?)

I see a lot of 8711s mentioned. Thought of the HS 7950TH's? I think they would be a better option on 7.4v as you'd have to add a regulator other wise. One less piece to the puzzle. KISS. My $0.02.
