It's just like driving a car or owning a dog. Just because you can doesn't mean you don't have to assume the responsibilities that go along with it.

Somebody wasn't using their brain.

I would think the skydiver (as well as the cameraman) would be cursing up a storm....

As they say stuff happens i think dan_no makes a good point most of us has pulled something dumb and got away with it. (Happend to me this weekend Inverted wall coming at the flight line and the motor decided to cut out and spudder which caused me to have to take it behind the flight line. everyother time it looked cool that time not so much.) I highly doubt that the pilots intention was to hit the skydiver. if i was a betting person he was looking at the skydiver trying to know where he was at and simply flew his plane into it. It happens all the time flying more than one foamies in a gym.

Im sure the parachute owner is very pissed regardless if he knew the plane pilot or not. His chute is done for and they are not cheap. And two people almost got hurt. This IS a mess. This is the kind of thing that could effect us all. The pilot of the plane obviously should have turned the plane away from the skydivers. Way away. It looked to me that he was going right for them too. WHAT A FU(KTARD.

The pilot of the plane should have landed until the skydivers landed. Or, at least flown his plane to the other side of the sky, well away from the people. Gross negligence at best.

Dan-o,

Agree with you totally. We are playing with loaded guns and must exercise extream caution all the time. It just take one bad accident to screw the pouch for everyone.

I have personally witnessed two such incidents at the Torrey Pines site where they know there are planes (gliders) flying.

In both those incidents the people were hopping mad and both involved tandem rides such as this one. The video stops immediately after they touch down, so there is no way of knowing what happened after that.

This guy is the type that we need to screen out of this hobby. Guys like him need to go back to their xboxes and stay on the couch.
Somebody needs to find this nut and take his equipment away from him before he kills someone.
This nut is a liability.

Just think about all of the people accross the U.S. that call and order ARFS everyday that have no idea at all about how to fly, they order everything they need, its shipped to them, assemble it and go out and attempt to fly it somehwere.

This looked like a bigger plane to me, at least a 50cc, although I did not hear an engine, but that could be due to the distance and wind noise.

Seems unlikely that it was a total newb. Had to be someone who at least knew how to fly.

But I have long said that we modelers are our own worst enemies.

Link to same plane flying prior to hitting the parachute. Looks to be a 33% or 35% Yak of some sort.

the newsletter you posted does not sound at all like what we saw on the video. Sounds like a separate event involving a full-scale.

Clearly no neophyte. And clearly flying from the airport itself.

There is no way that guy was flying where he was supposed to be flying. Watch the second video near the end. He's all over the place...over the road...behind buildings. He's lucky he didn't kill someone. I do agree with Judge about us being our own worst enemies. This is a perfect example of that.
