Yeah, separate event, but I was trying to convey that there is a sensitivity to this. Also two skydivers died in separate accidents within the past year, so stuff like this is likely to make the local news.

I wonder if they were having a special event at the airport? Either way, lucky know one was killed.

Why would one have a parchute club/landing zone beside an aircraft field? Now in defence of the pilot, he may have been flying were he is aloud too and the jumper came into thier area (which the pilot was unaware had happened). Or the pilot was out further than he thought he was, still he should not have been flying in that area with a jumper landing. Or maybe he noticed the jumper landing and was over in that area and tried to come around to get away from them but misjudged the distance. Can't blame one or the other since no one knows the who story. But the Jumpers were very lucky to have landed safely.

This is a well known jump school located at the airport. It is not at all uncommon for these operations to use the airport they left from as their landing zone. We have one right here in SOCAL that does the same thing as do other locations that I know about. In fact, it is far less common for them NOT to land at their departure point.

The real question is why on Earth was the RC pilot flying there? There are no known RC fields in the area. No AMA clubs at least and nothing that can be seen on Google Earth. He is clearly standing near one end of the runway based on the flight pattern. Very odd.

Agreed. No clubs near the airport. I live east of Orange and there are 4 fields within 30 minutes of me. From that location, I can think of at least two of those fields (both in Culpeper) that would be fairly close.

If this does make the Orange news, I still doubt it will bump the planned Walmart at Wilderness off of the front page...

This is why it's good practice to never fly towards the flight line. All my manevers are done parallel to the flight line. Never ever had a problem flying into the pitts. If there's a failure the direction of the crash is never towards people. If I misunderstood your post, sorry in advance.

How can you not blame the pilot? Where was his spotter or did he even have one? It was very clear in the video that the skydivers were coming down where they did. The pilot should be charged criminally for being so stupid. He nearly killed 2 people with his recklessness.

I can't believe that he flew there! He came really close to killing them.

Sorry, I must have not made myself clear. My mistake. I am not saying that the pilot is not to blame, but some blame should land on the spotters or others that are beside the pilot (if there were any). If the jumpers were not supposed to be in that area then they are partially to blame as well (but like you siad, judging from the person videoing it that they use that area for that purpose). I have only been flying rc planes for a little over 3 years and have flown at a couple different fields around here. None around an other fields (airports, jumpers landing zones, etc) only farms and trees. At our local field we do get some low flying aircraft go over, but on the most part they do stay clear of the area. The others not flying as the aircraft comes close let everyone else know to stay clear of that area till it has passed or you come in and land till it is clear. So if one is flying do they look down at the other end of the field to see what it there? The pilot does have full control of his craft, but judging distance can be a little bit of a task and can only see so far in front of his craft. Anyway, this should not have happened at all, period.

Here is the place: http://www.skydiveorange.com/

It is a well established jump zone. And as I said, it is depicted on the aviation sectionals as such as well.

Come on FG, somebody has to know this guy? How many 35% Yaks are there flying in that part of Virginia?? This guy knows how to fly so he must be flying someplace else as well. Some one must recognize the plane!!

This guy's action may end up hurting all of us so you are not ratting out a buddy, you are helping to protect the rest of you FG brothers!!

I live about 30 minutes south of the airport. I go by there very often. They have always seemed to be lacking in the "by the rules" dept. at Orange. The skydive Hangar is pretty far away from the main hangar at the airport. They always kill a few divers there every year. I did not recognize the plane, but we are going to a fly in tomorrow at Bealeton (about 1 hour away from the airport) and I will certainly look for that plane. I can not believe that, and it has not made any other news........yet.

They had a guy flying a full scale Cessnea earlier this year and hit a skydiver too. It has always seemed to be a pretty dangerous place to me.

Watched the second video. At about 4:15 in the video, you can see the Skydiver walking towards the field. Didn't look happy.

Also from watching the video I think this is it: https://www.thundertiger4u.com/store...idProduct=2754

That is the same plane I thought it looked like. I know all the gas fliers around here. I am really hoping to see this idiot at the show tomorrow.
