Was a great contest except for the nealy 1.5 hour traffic jam we had to deal with coming back to DE. Moved 10 miles in 1 hour 25 mins.
Lots of fun. No Yuri

Thanks guys for all the great feedback. I enjoyed having you all and sharing the field and running the contest. Glad you had the opportunity to fly here. Will definitely do it again next year. I will see you in CT. I will post results in a few minutes. Bill already has them and will send to Roy tomorrow. Pics will be coming soon. Congrats to all.

Yep, just got home too but I'll leave the unloading for tomorrow, just a bit wore out from this one.
OK now for the long winded part (did you expect anything less )Well, once again the bar has been raised in the NE quest to put on better contests. Tony and all the crew from Black Dirt put on one hell of a contest and I personally want to thank them for all the hard work. I was told that we can expect to be back next year and I for one will be over at the MIcrotel, not that the Comfort was a bad hotel, I really liked the area where the MicroTel was, walking distance to everything you could need while at the contest. Speaking of walking distance, beyond the total blast of the contest itself, I was absolutely floored at the impromptu dinner at Outback. I did not actually do a count but I'm fairly certain 95% or more of everyone at the contest ended up at the same place for dinner at almost the same time About 14 of us came in what appeared to be around a half hour after what looked like 2 other groups of contestants and their families. BTW Jim, that rib bone was good... ![]() In the 4 years I've been back in IMAC and my time as the RD, I have never witnessed this. Granted we had 20 of 23 at the Pegasus dinner, which also was amazing and I do not want to take away anything Jim did for that contest, but to me what made this exceptional was this was not planned to any degree short of a few getting into smaller groups on their own and then all of us just showing up. These kind of things show me that we have accomplished our one major goal this year and that was to make our region something it never was before, at least as far as I am aware of the NE history, and turn it into what it has become. I cannot and will not take credit for this, it's all of the people that come to the events and those that put them on (the cd's and the clubs), and the ARD's that make them what they are and what the region has become. I totally believe when someone or a group of people truly excel at something they should be recognized. I want to say to all of the people flying basic that you guys put on one hell of a show. Many of you I have judged throughout the season but during your 3rd and 5th rounds I saw some of the best flying I have ever seen out of you folks all season long. I often made comments to some of you during your 3rd round that I wish you would make a mistake so I had something else to write down other that the 8's 9's and the odd 10's I was giving out and you all darn well know I do not hand out those high scores that often without good reason I.E.. I'm known as the hanging judge of the NE region. Congrats to all of you and certainly keep up the great flying. Everyone, please understand that I am in no way ignoring all the other classes, everyone and I mean everyone did everything they could to make this contest the success it was, from judging to calling to coaching and everything else you can think of, not to mention the flying was truly excellent, as usual. Next is the all important score keepers, I am really bad at remembering names and for the life of me I cannot remember Andrew's wife's name or the club member that also did the scores but Tony and Andrew, please pass on my thanks as well to them, that is a thankless job and very demanding. Now for Tony. This man did everything you could possibly think of to put this contest on. I know he spent time on the phone with several people making sure he knew what he needed to do. I know he spent loads of time getting us the deals at the hotels, purchased a few extra goodies to make it comfortable for the judges and pilots alike and many other things. At the last minute Sat, he came up with the idea of some subs (hero's) and made it happen. Though I never had the chance to have some of the hot dogs, hamburgers and other things the club cooked up for us on Saturday, I hear they were pretty good as well. I, for one certainly look forward to another fun time at this club And finally all of you. you guys and gals make these things happen. Without the you showing up to fly these contests we would not invited back as often as we have been this year. What I mean is so far, all of the new contests we have had, we have been invited back for next year and all the older contests certainly want us back as well. Basically next years calendar is full, just not finalized yet

Bill, Thanks for the comments - very much appreciated. I will pass on the thanks to scorers - Claire and Frank. Believe it or not I was considering arranging a dinner at the Outback as Jim did in Hagerstown (next year I will) but I wasn't sure if they could handle it. Obviously, based on the number of us eating there, they could have. I was planning on going to the New Hampshire but I have a conflict. I will see you all in CT.

Wow! Great field, great organization, great company, great weather; great contest!
Thanks to Tony and the Black Dirt club for running such a well-orchestrated contest and being such terrific hosts. Thanks also to everyone for being so welcoming; it's a bit intimidating to go down to a different area and compete amongst a crowd you've never met before but everyone made me feel very welcome, which I appreciate very much! The competition in Basic was intense for sure! Everyone could 'really fly' and I couldn't have guessed at the end exactly where everyone would stand. There was only the tiniest hair of difference between my 3rd and Charles' 4th; maybe if Charles had been flying an electric that might have been the other way 'round! Speaking of small electrics -- 1st and 3rd. Enuf said. Thanks again to everyone, I think this was one of the nicest contests I've been to all year! http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2553/...f47f55a7_b.jpg Last edited by eajohnson; 09-27-2009 at 12:22 PM. |

JUST A NOTE TO ALL THE IMAC FLYERS THAT ATTENDED OUR EVENT. THANKS FOR MAKING BLACK DIRTS 1ST IMAC EVENT A GREAT SUCCESS, I HOPE YOU ENJOYED OUR GREAT FIELD, WE THINK ITS ONE OF THE BEST FLYING SITES ANYWHERE. TONY HAS BEEN PREPARING FOR THE EVENT FOR WEEKS AND WOULD HAVE LOVED TO COMPETE BUT THOUGHT IT WAS MORE IMPORTANT THAT OUR GUESTS WERE COMFORTABLE AT OUR FIELD. IVE BEEN FLYING WITH TONY FOR 10 YRS AND AT TIMES HE CAN BE QUITE ANAL ABOUT THINGS, THATS ONLY BECAUSE HE DOESNT SETTLE FOR ANYTHING LESS THAN PERFECTION. SO I HOPE YOU ALL HAD A GREAT TIME AND LOOK FORWARD TO SEEING YOU ALL AGAIN, PROVIDING NO ONE GOT SICK FROM MY HOT DOGS AND BURGERS. SEE YA NEXT YEAR.

Tony, anal, you damn right he is and that's why he's an ARD. I know I can count on him and all of my ARD's for that matter, they are all great.
