I was actually planning to download the RC since a buddy has some valid keys, and dual boot my vista box. I must be one of the lucky ones because from day 1 with vista, its been nothing but smooth sailing (well, aside from some creative driver issues, but thats typical for me and creative soundcards.)
Not sure if I want to partition my velociraptor, or throw another drive in. |

I love people that complain about Vista. Usually its the ones that A...have never used it. B...have a computer that is barely fit for Windows 95. Im not saying its without fault, but it is not that bad. Ive been running Vista Ultimate 64 for the last 2.5 years with no regrets. I would not use it in a business environment, but for home use is fine. It does require some memory to get it to run right. If you have less than 4gb, dont bother...that means use the 64 bit version so you can use all 4gb. 8gb is better. That being said, I used my MSDN subscription to upgrade to WIndows 7...It is much faster..Time will tell if it is what its cracked up to be.

We just bought a new notebook yesterday (Toshiba, of course, I used to work for them).. it's my first Vista computer... not bad at all so far. It's been so long since I was involved in the technical differences between OS's.
We have a free upgrade to Windows 7... but I hate to go through the daily patches that are inevidable with that. |

I've got a mac, it's good for email and browsing the web. For my daily functions, I am forced to fall back on to a Virtual Machine running XP for the apps I need.
As for Win 7, Hell yes that is a update for sure. Vista is crap, always was and always will be. The only way to get it to run well is to throw a lot of RAM at it and run Raid 0. It's the only way I've been able to get any sort of speed out of it. I've been running 7 pro for about 2 weeks now and love it. Ultimate is even better with all the home media stuff built in. It will perform all basic DVR functions straight out of the box. What's not to love!!! Mac is ok, Win 7 is here to stay!! Neo |

I got Windows 7 64-bit Professional as a download through MSFT. My wife's pc gets that license. A friend of mine works for MSFT and is giving me a copy of Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit next week. I'll use that license for my gaming machine.

Been running RC for 6 months now, I will wait till it expires early next year and then upgrade. Windows 7 is what Vista should have been.

Anybody done an upgrade where they were able to leave all their files intact? I've got an HP laptop that runs vista now but I'd like to upgrade to W7. Do I just need to buy w7 and do it or do I need to download a bunch of drivers first?
