Synthesised Tx and Rx

I can`t find any threads on synthesised Tx and rx on this site.

I live in the UK and we have just started to get synthesised radio`s.

I was just wondering what everyones opinion was about them?

If anyone doesn`t know, the tx module has 2 dials on the back of it, you just just turn them to the frequency you desire.
The rx is then tuned from the tx.

Neither actually has a xtal in it,

I think this is the way radios will go , in a years time I doubt you will be able to buy either with the option of a xtal.

I personally think it is a good idea, especially if you turn up to fly and find there are other people on your frequency, you can just choose another one without buying more xtals.

As with anything new,some people I have spoken to are sceptical about them.

I don`t even know if they are available in the us.

Anybody have any thoughts?

I have one of the synth. futaba Rxs with the dials in one of my planes also, als have the G3 Rx that goes with the 14MZ no dials just change it in the transmitter and get close to the RX then fly!

I love it....I can switch to any channel when someone comes along on the same channel.

I use the synthesized system in my Futaba 9C.

I have a synthesized receiver that I just flew in my Pattern plane today, for the first time. No problems what so ever, I will be buying more of these.

Side note, the synthesized receiver that I have for my Pattern plane has the dials on the top of it, just like the TX module, different from the 14 and 12 channel. My receiver is the 9 channel PCM.

I have the synthesized JR 9303. I have yet to try a JR synth RX but will shortly try the R780 and the other new 10 channel one. For my RX's I just cary a bunch of different crystals and the TX can be on whatever.

I have the Heli version of the 9303 because it has all the features of the 9303 and I like the smoothe throttle.

You are right as it has given me so many more chances to fly at a busy field. Its nice to be on about any channel you want.

More of the opinion side of the TX wars is that JR labels your channels on your RX and simplifies the giant scale setup by breaking your multiple elevators and ailerons into Right Aileron Half, Left Aileron Half, Left Elevator Half, Right Elevator Half. I have for example setup my big planes within about 5-10mins of programming.

I am not talking out the rear either as I have also had the 9C super and flew it for a little over a year. I had flown futaba for years prior to JR but have since really apreciated the fine tuning and amount of throw I can program in the JR radio.

In the end choose which ever brand you like. I hear the Royal EVO's are the cats meow. Too bad when I was in the UK I was too busy chasing women and recovering from long nights at the pub. Well that and those dammed Para's with all that running and jumping out of airplanes.

Oh yeah the only downside perhaps, is sometimes you forget the exact channel you are on. Not always a biggie but if I stick around on a channel for a while (like say you have 4 different planes) I like to write it down on the plane.

I have heard it rumored like 3 mile range with either the 9303 or 10x and synth module. Not sure how true that is. I was rather surprised at how far out I had control. I usually fly fairly close in for 3D but I will admit the synth module is nifty.

I've heard nothing but good things about them. Better range and more tolerant to RF noise. I'm not presently flying one, but I do plan on going that route. Good question!! Welcome to the Flying Giants by the way!!

I just bought a new Futaba 9c Super with the synth module and the synth rx--set the channels and ranged checked with motor on and motor off--no problems--made 2 flights with no problems.At this point LIFE IS GOOD. Well-2 weeks later I'm back at the field--range check again with motor off--everything good--walk back to plane--set radio down next to plane and start flipping prop--after several flips I notice that I have no servo response. Power is going to the servos but there is no response from tx--turn radio off-look at channel selector--dials are where they should be--grab my other 9c [ on same channel ] turn it on and instant response. I was able to finally get back on the correct channel after changing channels several times but I definitely was not going to use the radio--I continued to use the rx with no problems. This happened with a brand new rx and tx. the scary part is it could have happened while I was flying [ probably with really bad results ]--another thing is that when the tx jumped channels I have no idea which channel it went to--which could have caused somebody else's plane to go out of control resulting in a damaged aircraft or possibly personal injury to someone. Needless to say the rx and tx are one their way to Futaba--even if Futaba finds the problem I'm not sure I will ever really be able to trust this system again. BTW--I have not heard of anyone else having this problem so I'm feeling special in a bad way

phoneman.. I've used synth modules for a long time and i've had no problem. You may have a bad module or it could even be your TX not tranmitting properly. I you made the right call sending it off to futaba.

I just bought the JR 9303 with Synthesized tx & rx... haven't tried the receiver yet, so no opinion..

HOWEVER...

I had a Hitec Optic 6 with synthesized Tx & Rx... The receiver would freeze and stop functioning at anything over half throttle with ANY of my 4 Stroke engines. Seems that the units just don't handle vibration very well. I have 2 of these receivers, both with the exact same problem. No matter how much foam, what method of strapping to hold it down, I could not eliminate the problem. When it freezes, you have ABSOLUTELY NO CONTROL over anything. It will hold the existing servo settings (including throttle) until you manually close the needle valve and kill the engine (I had these on 4-stroke planes). It would work pefectly (for testing) if you just left it dangling, but the moment you fasten it down, it will freeze as you throttle up. DON"T USE THESE!!

We'll see how the JR's work.....

I have been using the 9ZHPS synthisized since 94 with no problems.
My 9Z shows over 9300 hours of on time, not flying time.

I went for the 14MZ and it is synthisized also, since my 9Z is giving it up after all these years.

I've been using the JR 7202 for about a month now and it works awesome. I was flying Saturday and another guy showed up with the same channel, I just changed mine to another open channel and we could both fly all we wanted!!! worked awesome!!!!!!
