Default Video: 50cc Harrier King - H9 Alitalia Cap 232

I've had this plane sitting NIB for several years and finally got around to assembling it with the guts from my retired EF 87' Yak. Man, I shoulda done it years ago! Absolutely rocks at 3D and cuts through the wind nicely, like all Caps do. Winds were 15-20MPH gusts in the video, so it's nothing special. It was also my girlfriends first time attempting to video, so it was an experiment. I think it came out ok, all things considered..

Plane setup:

Oooold DA50 w/ Pitts muffler swinging a PT 22x8 prop in the video - I actually prefer a 23x8, but the 22 does a much better job in the wind
Hitec 5945's all the way around
Duralite 4400 Li ion for the RX (could fly for a week on this pack)
Fromeco 2400 Li ion for ign
Built 'stock' with no attempts to save weight -- 15.5lbs! 80' wing with 1250sq so it flies VERY light. I could easily get it under 15lbs with a little effort, but there's absolutely no need.

BTW - The plane is for sale RTF. Not that I really want to sell it, but I have 2 40%'s I need to finish.

It's amazing to me how well the plane cuts through the wind in a harrier. I've had 33% planes that would get tossed around badly in any kind of high-alpha with wind like that. I'll get some video of it when the weather is better. This one was just an experiment to see how well the video would actually turn out with that camera. A little better than I expected!

After flying mostly 40% stuff, I was pleasantly surprised by this little guy - probably one of the most fun 50cc planes I've owned/flown.

In a moment of weakness Kyle and I sold ours at the Georgetown auction a couple of years back..... It only had maybe less than ten flights and was a really great plane to wear out. We brought it in our trailer just because it was packed in front...... George Scheffield saw it and wanted it so it went to his house! Dang it! Need another one!
WT

PS: This video really helps drive it home how good a plane it was. Ain't it grand? (Now that the darn things are discontinued!)

Where do you have the CG set at ??? My brother has one and I can't get it to settle in like that but then again I'm not that good of a pilot as you...

I can agree it definately cuts through the wind like it isn't even blowing. All the guys at the field noticed that right away...

P.S. We set up his CG right in the middle of the recommended range...

Oh yeah his weighs in a little over 16 lbs with two reciever packs and switches and a ignition pack as well...

Honestly, I'm not exactly sure where the CG is. It's somewhere in the middle of the recommended range. I sorta half-assed the CG measurement with 2 jack stands when I first set the plane up. I knew it was in the range, and would adjust accordingly from there.. I've yet to change it, though; I've got less than 20 flights on the plane. It's just a tad nose heavy, which I could rectify with a CF spinner. I need to re-program the elevators to get some more throw - particularly down. I'm going to put some more flights on it tomorrow. The weather should be perfect, but I won't be getting any video as my camera girl is not coming...

Someone want one? Talk to me I've had one hanging up in my shop forever now. Saito 300 twin on ignition on the front - puts out as much power as a DA50 and sounds cool too Never even flown it since I went bigger. I need to finish it off one of these days and fly it since its geared up but I'm more likely to just pull that 300 off it to put it on a cub and sell the airframe.

Who knows, maybe I'll get the bug to finish it one of these days.

Yeah.. I'm not a fan of the 50cc size GP Cap. The 1/3 is great, though!

My camera girl came with me today after all; however, I didn't get any new footage of the Cap. I did get some killer video of my ridiculously over-powered Columbo Anderson 31% Extra 300L, though! I should have the new video up in a few days. 20lbs + ZDZ 80 Super = 3D monster.

I have one of these NIB for about 2 years now. The vid almost makes me want to put it together.
