Sorry to hear about loosing an airplane that way. I have had this happen to me too about 6yrs ago. Same scenario, I was attempting to hover on the edge of the field about 40ft up and a funtana flew through the tail of my plane just behind the canopy. As a relative newbie to the field I was deemed by the rest to be at fault. Funny thing, the guy that flew into mine that day flew into 2 other planes within 2 weeks after. To this day I hesitate to fly with others in the air too. Oh well these things happen.

That's too bad. I haven't flown with others in the air for the last 7 yrs or so as I like having the whole sky to do my own stuff and my other club members don't do the 3D thing.

Seems like if you were hovering out of traffic and you were hit by somebody, isn't that like hitting a parked car? I believe I'd be asking the other fellow to oil up his checkbook at least for the airframe.....

what makes it bad was my son was asked to come put on a 3d show at a local fly in. he did and it was both amazing and violent he was asked to move to the other side of the field for his 3d flying he obliged those that were woried he might have a accident. so he's where he is supposed to be at and gets flew thru. it's just bad luck, all around two good planes are lost. now a little back ground ken flew in imac for the first time this year to the top in basic in north central with wins in basic and freestyle. he is a full time student at jb speed school at uofL. so no job no plane as the sukhoi was all he had to fly. he's upset and as a father so am i. thanks

I guess this why the people at my club don't like people that hover their airplane - they might run into it and ruin their plane.
![]() Really, that is a shame. What did the other pilot say? |

He didn't say much just that he saw me and there was nothing he could do. Evidently he was inverted doing a flyby. Well the club i am a member of likes to hover their planes and seeing planes hover. And like to out do each other so we usually fly one plane at a time if possible if not we just give each other plenty of room.

Loosing a plane in a mid-air is never fun, but it does happen, and it's rarely anyone's fault. I flew for 10 years and never had a mid-air, quit the hobby for 15 years then got back in, and had a mid-air about a month after starting again. My plane was destroyed and the other plane landed with minor damage to the wing. No one's fault, just two planes ended up at the exact same point in the sky. Almost impossible to do on purpose. It does seem that it's always the more expensive plane that gets taken out. Must be one of those Murphy's law things. The best thing to do is put another one together and get back in the air as quickly as possible.
