These are fairly commonplace and are issued whenever there is a VIP (President, Vice President, etc.) flying in or out of a place. The AMA is now trying to communicate these to clubs since in the past they were pretty much ignored by modelers, and that kind of ticked off the FAA/DHS folks.
So if your club field is within the affected area you should not fly during the time of the TFR. BTW - TFR stands for "Temporary Flight Restriction".

We also have TFR in Pittsburgh tomorrow from 12:05 to 3:20.
On Sep. 24-25 there is another TFR due to the G 20 crap; when all the elitist's come to town. It's generally a 30 mile ring around PIT, from the surface to 18,000 ft. The NOTAM specifically mentioned model aircraft in the restriction. From what I'm reading on the forums, restrictions and regulations to R/C aircraft from the FAA (who is always there to help ) may be coming soon.....Jim |

Just so people do not take the TFR the wrong way here is the part where models are mentioned:
Plus there is a whole other list of restrictions on the aircraft that are allowed. Typical stuff since 9-11.

Wow. Never heard of this kind of thing. When you think about it, it's kind of dumb in a way cause there are anouncing to the general public(and terrorists) where the pres or someone associated is flying at or to or from. I wouldnt think that would be wise. But then again, i guess it does eliminate most possibilities of an attack of some sort cause if nothing is up in the air than anything seen up there would be considered a threat and taken out. But on the other hand i wonder how many people still fly because they didn't get the message not to fly? Your average joe flying a foamie in his yard or a elec park flyer in his yard or a local park wouldn't hear about the warning. Your average farmer with a crop duster or ultralight pilot or small experimantal aircraft pilot flying out of a private landing strip might not hear about it either! I wonder how they enforce that no fly rule exactly???? This is the kind of thing that will sneak up on us and screw up our model flying freedoms in the future. I can imagine it now, GS planes would get noticed if flying because they didnt get the message and the man will start crackin down on us with the whip. Right in the goatass. Well thankfullly we have sleepy and the up to speed giants here to keep us informed.
Yo.

I would keep the planes in the hanger today, The plane , AF-1 is a flying transmitter with I'm sure wideband RF counter measures. No doubt including our frequencies. Who knows what it could do as it departs the area. Aside from the fact they know where the fields are and probably have the crazy Black Helicopters on stanby.
It affects several of our fields near PIT.

I don't ever remember having any TFR's when Bush came to Cincinnati. We had one of these Labor Day weekend when Obama came to town to speak at a union rally. The Secret Service has their hands full protecting him.

As they said above. These have been going for years, but were largely ignored in the modeling world. Unless you went online looking for NOTAM's or were a full scale pilot in the area, you wouldn't have known. The AMA is trying to work with the FAA to get this information out to show that we are willing to cooperate. After working closely with the FAA on UAV stuff the last few years I have learned they are willing to work with us, and we are a very important part of what they plan to do in the future, they just want us to show a little cooperation in the matters and follow the NOTAM's as do the full scale pilots in an area. We don't have to like it, but they still control the airspace in which we fly, and it is in our best interest to work with them as much as possible. I know the AMA is heavily involved, far more than is public knowledge at this moment and the FAA definitely respects what the AMA has done to semi regulate radio control. I think in the end, not a lot is going to change from an R/C standpoint, but going out of our way ignoring NOTAM's and such is not going to help the cause.
