Default Oil in Australia

I hope this isn't too much of a can of worms, but I'm after some recommendations for good oil for use in my first gas engine. Much of the oil debates on this forum and others are very much USA-centric so I'd like to simply ask the following:

What oil are you using?
Where do you get it?

I'm particularly interested in a synth oil that I can get in Sydney.

Michael.

I use Redline at 50:1 in all my 2 stroke engines.

Mate, you can't go wrong with the redline stuff, available from desert aircraft in brissie. Alot of other people will tell you its not worth the money, but when you consider how much we spend on this sport, nothing is a compromise

I pay $9 US for it here in the states, not sure if it's more is AUS or not. It's great oil...

I get to work on a lot of engines that use various brands of oil. From what I see day to day, and from my own engines. Redline 2 stroke racing wins hands down.

It may cost a bit more, but when you think of it, you wont spend that much on oil per year, and it's cheap insurance on engine degradation.

My experiences are with DA engines. Other manufacturers may have a different point of view on this.

another very good 2 stroke oil is Castrol 747 Castor / Synthetic race oil. this oil is designed for high performance Go-Kart engines as well as high reving aero and marine 2 stroke petrol engines. it was around $35 per litre but now its no doubt over $40 per litre.

The most local supplier I found has the Pint (473ml) for about $30, which will make me betwen 15 and 25 litres. A couple of those would last me a fair while in a 50cc.

Problem we have found with high performance oils, like Motorex, Bel Ray, Amsoil, Motul and the likes, is a excesive carbon build up. Even at mixes as little as 100:1!! The build up can be extreme, guming up rings etc. These brands and types of oils may work really well on high performance motorcyles, that are reving a lot higher than our model aero engines.

2T for run-in then TTS for the life of the engine.

The best compromise of affordability, availability and reliability IMHO
