Default help a123 gave up the ghost now what?

hi all i was just getting ready to fly tomorrow and while charging my battery gave out a pop and so i shut down the charger and yanked the battery out of the plane. after some investigation i found that the battery was leaking something and was medium hot to the touch not enough to burn just hotter than it should have been. what do i do with it now? currently it is sitting in an all metal ammo can in the middle of the garage. also what could have done this i was using a cell pro charger on the life setting and charging at 4 amps the battery is a tanic 2500 mah a123 battery and it says that i can charge it at up to 8C so i know i was well under that thresh hold. thanks for the help. since funds are tight i am going to switch to a 2700 mah 6v nimh battery until i can get a new one.

Not sure about Tanic a123 packs, are they genuine a123 cells? I've been running a123 batteries in all my planes now for over a year and have no problems. All my packs were made from Dewalt battery packs.

I charge them with a Fromeco at 2amps, never an issue.

I would find a recycle center and just get rid of it. Call the place you bought it from and inquire.

Another person to contact here on FG, would be Dick Hanson, he knows just about everything there is to know about these cells.

Sounds like it shouldn't have happened. At least it didn't smoke your plane..

The good thing about these batteries, they don't explode. They may get hot and making popcorn sounds, but they are very safe.
