Default Slide 58 Build Thread

This slide is made in the USA. It is going to be equiped with a Saito 100 4 stroke.

I started with laminating the part together. Here are a few photos.

WW what is the price for the kit? I need to build one over the winter. What did you ever decide on the electric setup?

Nice job on the build CHAWKJIM. Keep us updated.

A buck sixty nine with free shipping from the site. This gets you the CNC routered kit, plans, and aluminum wing tube with wing tube hardware. If I can hand deliver it to you at one of the events I can save you a few bucks....

Here is my two, got a third on the way. The star burst one is where it all started. I loved the way it flew but being of original design from another guy named James Spencer and being that at 58 inches it would not fit in the trailer or well in back of truck, I asked for him to redesign for the wing to come off. The added weight of the wing tube and receivers was not noticed on the 1064 square inch design.

The removable wing option is holding up very well. Strong to everything you can throw at it short of a cartwheel.

Oh and don't forget to put the wing bolts in or they might fall out of the sky like this one from rollers at 20 foot. He suffered a broken prop.

The electric version at just under 7 pounds flying weight. The Saito 100 glow versions have been coming out at 5 pounds 11 or so ounces.

I picked up my Electric Slide today from Wild Fred factory. Looks sweet, I threw everything on the scale and am guessing for about 7 lbs 4 oz with the dual 3000 4 cell batteries and big motor. Can save about 6 ounces if I go with the smaller motor and about 300 less watts.

Will post details after I get all the put together done.

Got the linkages setup tonight. Dubro hardware, stainless 4-40 capture ends and carbon rod gives stiff control on the large surfaces. IMO if you have a linkage setup that allows any bending or twisting you are setting up for flutter. I have used these in my other two slides, (available in optional hardware package at my site) and they work perfect.

I set radio to factory endpoints, trim, etc, attached the dubro ends with stainless capture rods, turned on the radio, centered the control arms and cut the lengths on the carbon tubes to a perfect fit. Before flight I will need very little trim adjustments.

Using JB weld, I cleaned the inside of the capture ends with alcoholic, sanded the ends of the rods and dry fit with blue painters tape to keep the finish clean. Mix JB weld, push ends together on plane, give a half twist and seat them all the way in and hold with rubber band until set.

Looking good Richard. I think the electric may be the way to go but I still have the Katana in the hanger that I could rob the gear out of.

What is the electric setup? What is the cost of the electric setup? What prop? Details.......Details. I gotsta have the details.
