Elevator setup. Getting about 50 degrees of throw.
First slide has 76 in/oz on wings, 107 in/oz on elevator and 133 on rudder. The elevator/rudder work fine, wings are a little sluggish at medium speeds and more. Second Slide had similar bu really woke up when I went from 6.0 liion to 6.6 A123, much more crisp. Third above will have 144 in/oz on wings, 143 elevator, and 107 on rudder. We will see how that works out. This time I was setting up for servo speed not power.

BTW I had to back the rudder off a little, it was slapping the elevators on quick movement. Again, close to 50 degrees throw.
The motor is 1825 watt Turnigy, about $45 or so with shipping http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/s...idProduct=7070 Speed Controller 100 amp, maybe $105 with shipping http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/s...idProduct=4691 Bec, need high voltage, maybe another $25 Batteries 4S 3000 mAh- 20c capacity times two. This gives you a 29 volt system in series. About $50 a pair http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/s...idProduct=9264 Prop, I got JC Electric coming in 16x4 and 17x4. We have been using the non electric JC 16x4 and it works great. Might get a little more efficiency when the E props come in. ($16.99) At 1825 watts and 7.25 pound flying weight it works out to about 250 watts per pound. Basic 3D starts at 150 watts per pound and great 3D is 200.....so a 1400 watt system would likely be just fine....but you know me, I gotta be in for the VERTICAL DRAGS!!

Disclaimer, I am a newbie on larger Electric setups. Have been reading and asking questions. It seems to me that one could spend more money on a really sweet Neuo motor http://www.neumotors.com/Site/Welcome.html
and get better efficiency and perhaps get a setup to come in at 6.5 pounds with great performance. I used motors and ESC that were available to me from Dmitriy and may at some point change it based on performance. My goal was great 3D power and close to a 10 minute flight time which is what I do with my gassers, glow setups.

I can smell the clear coat buring off the prop now. 1825 watts and 29 volts works out to about 63 amps. Wonder what a 2000 watt system would do on this baby. That should work out to about 69 amps.
HHHHHmmmmm wonder what 2000 watts could do on this baby. Looks like you might be able to get away with a smaller speed controller. Just a thought.

Yeah, Dmitriy is now playing with an 80 amp setup. Seems he fried his speed controller when he landed in the pond down at Daytona last month.
BTW 29 volts is the nominal-ready to stop flying voltage.....Fully charged the 8S is 33.6 volts. As I recall, we were seeing low 70's with this motor on the 25C 2650 4 cell batteries. I understand from Dmitriy that the amps spike up to mid 90's on throttle up. So if one used a motor with 1400 watts and 8 cell I wonder what speed controller would be needed? The 100 amp controller weighs in at 4.4 oz no connectors. An 80 amp controller is 3.2 oz.....not a lot of weight savings but half the price. Before I maiden this plane we will run some props with the batteries and get some watt/amp readings.

Nothing like some help from a Pro Bro.
Here is some data from a guy building a Slide on another site. His motor setup is Slide 58/Neu 1509 2.5D/6.7 gearbox/Phoenix 85HV/APC 17x8E Data done with an Eagle Tree Data logger system. Batteries are 2 of the 3 cell 3000 may 20 c batteries.

I was just using the old math of Power = Current x Voltage. So at 1400 watts and 29 volts the setup should draw about 50 amps.
As the voltage goes up the current goes down and vice versa as the voltage goes down the current goes up. See I do remember something from college. That is if the power stays the same and I assume that it doesn't do to the fact that the load from the proppeller is not consistent.

It has been so hot in the garage it's hard to work very long. If I did not have to cut wood I would build in the house. To much saw dust. the wife would kill me. I did get more cut today and I will keep you posted .

Well I just finished the fuse assembly. tommorow I will do the rear stab. It goes together pretty easy. For the laminating of the parts I used elmers wood glue, for the carbon tube to wood I used the 45 min epoxy. All main glue joints I used epoxy with chopped glass.

Its dry and now I will be sanding, Start with 100 grit then 220 then 400 then ready to cover. Wrongway can I see a couple photos of the left and right sides to see the servo mounts.

Finally after waiting on a defective speed control I did the maiden flight on my 58 inch Electric Slide.
Running on 8 cell (2x4 cell in series) battery and a A123 - 1100 for flight it comes in at a somewhat porky 7 pounds 8 ounces. All I can say is I can't tell it, it still flies very light. I wound up with a Castle 85 HV speed control and am happy with it.....I guess you get what you pay for..... On an 16x6 Electric Prop it gets 9600 rpm and has similar power to the Saito 125 I had in a different Slide...... ....This is with the throttle end point turned down to 52% travel..... I imagine it would run 16-18k with the end point released but I am not ready to do that yet. With this setting I come in from a flight and the ESC is cold, the batteries are cold and the motor is just warm, maybe 105 degrees.....should be reliable... The last flight was 9 minutes and I put 2300 mAh back in each of the 3000 mAh batteries, so it looks like 10 minute flights can be achieved... It is a keeper....
