Here's some more updates guys...
The engine is in place, along with the CDI and fuel fueler. Tank is in and locked... (tricky but it's locked in). All tubing is done just missing to lock the Y connector. Next get the servo arms in place, center servos and find the right location for the control horns. Should be done tomorrow. Need to grab the ignition kill switch I gave to a buddy of mine, get the radio stuff all done and up she goes... I might be ready Wednesday but probably only put her up on the weekend. You will all know for sure

Is there a top piece of ply that goes on the engine box?
It seems to me that a top piece, going from the firewall to the fuse, would add a lot of strength but very little weight. Jim |

Here's some updates guys.... Throttle servo mount is one but I'm not sure I like it....
![]() I also don't like the rudder servo because the entire wood plate moves when the servo turns... hum.... maybe I'll reinforce that one a bit. Elevator horns are in and linked. I used some parts of my old 3DHS Katana and they fit perfectly. I'm expecting my kill switch today, plug everything and then start to cut the cowling... tomorrow... |

I remember bugging the old Aerotech like crazy about that ARF. I didn't know they actually were shipped out in any numbers. I saw the proto type fly at SPARKS back in the day.

i got some more stick time on one of our older Kit Built 42% Velox's last night and even though it was built several years ago (heavy!!!) it sure flies nice. it is a point roll machine. the "box sides" are great in KE attitude and it will fly that way from horizon to horizon with not much rudder input.
i think you'll like this little guy!

Hey guys, here's what's going on....
Jim Hamm brought me some parts from his local hobby town and gave me some ideas and advices how to cut the cowling and get the right CG. This is the first model I have that is nose heavy... Usually they are all tail heavy but not this one. It makes it even easier to work with. ![]() I didn't like the throttle servo tray so I re-did it and coated it in the same day... this was done last Wednesday night, but now it's strong and looks good. I also got the plate in the top of the engine motor mount just for strength purposes. By Jim's opinion I reinforced the aileron linkage using a 4-40 all threaded link but cover it with carbon fiber. We used JB Weld to glue both together. It's a simple and fast process and for sure the link does not flex now. Thanks Jim.Because of the huge cowling, Jim and I found out I had to cut a exhaust slot or else the muffler would be on the way. I started cutting a bit at a time and I like the final product. Because the canopy is easy to remove I'm going to put the switch and the ignition LED inside the fuse where I can see it (It's shown in the picture). It's not really well focused but I used a blind nut instead of a wood screw attaching the cowling to the fuse. I used the tape method to get me the right location to drill the hole. I'll start the engine today to adjust high and low end on the throttle servo and then get the cowling in place and get its ready to go. Thanks for looking |

Ok guys... this baby is 30min from being ready. I just need to lock some wires, put the cowling and it will be ready to go.
Got the decals on and it looks pretty cool. Now here's something that surprised me... I got the bathroom scale and weighting myself with and without holding the airplane I got 15lbs (6.8Kg). I didn't use the three A123's and that's the only big weight change I did. Tomorrow I'll have a good accurate scale and weight it there again to double check weight. I run the engine and it didn't need any adjustments at all. Great... ![]() Can't wait to see it up. Thanks guys and specially to Jim for helping out getting parts, advices and... that's about it.... |
