Dear more experienced modellers and fellows,
I am on the market for a IMAC Sportsman / basic plane. I am leaning towards a Yak or Sukhoi (radial cowling) but don't really know how about the pros and cons of the various alternatives. I want to use a Laser V-240 4-st glow engine, the weight is 44oz inc mufflers. It turns a 18*8 8400rpm or a 20*6 9000rpm. Some report 18*11 8000rpm with Engel Carbon narrow blade. How does the QQ 73" Yak compare to Magic Hand Yak 73" or a Pilot RC 73"? Some say the QQ 73" is fragile but this is not my opinion, just a remark from what I have heard. The Magic Hand 73"is said to be good for 3D but how about IMAC? The other options might be: Aeroworks 72" Yak Pilot RC 73" Yak These are both more expensive ones, they are said to be of good quality but I haven't any idea of their suitability for IMAC. How about the wingloading? Is the 44 oz glow engine too much weight for these airframes? Sorry, this became a long post but thank you all if you have time to give any hints! regards

Just food for thought: You are just in a new size where the engines are; such as a DLE 30---etc..
Glow vs Gas-----IMAC??????? If you ask the same question about the 30% size, which the information and set ups are all in the threads on FG. The smaller planes are not the norm for IMAC-----------------but might be as the smaller engines start to get more popular. You did list several planes that are great flyers, do a search on FG for the planes your interested in and read about other FG members that have already flown the planes you are interested in! I hope this helps Big A! |

Thank you BigA!
Obviously your suggestion is good so I will check what others have to say about the models I mentioned. Let's see if I can find some comments on how they seem to fit for precision aerobatics or IMAC training. regards |

If you are going to stay with that size (73") the QQ yak is the best choice for precision flying. But, since they are out of business I dont know where you would get one or the parts for it. I would recommend a 50cc 28-30% Extra 260 for starters.

Hello Jpal101,
Thanks for the reply! I guess I do not want to be stuck with a 73" but the thing is I want to use a Laser-240v twin glow 4-st engine. So I need to think about the wingloading plus the performance. Why Laser, well the sound is just awesome plus the realiability and quality of the engine are second to none. They are also very smooth running engines with a really good throthle reponse. Anyways, the 240 weights about 44oz with mufflers so I guess it's close to the weight of a 30cc dle gasser etc. (dunno if this is the case with the ignition battery included). The Laser engine turns a 18*8 8400rpm or a 20*6 9000rpm. Some report 18*11 8000rpm with Engel Carbon narrow blade. So while not being stuck with the 73" I am a bit unsure about how big a model I can select for the Laser with respect to the power output / rpm readings of the Laser and IMAC? Could I go for a bit bigger model and thus lower the wingloading? I.e. Great Planes Yak, EF Yak ? Anything else? oh well..a long post again ..Nevertheless, thank you again and happy flying! |

I any event, WildhareRC has some new 73" planes, I would choose the Extra260.

Thanks Jpal101!
Will have a look on WildHare website every now and then. I also noticed that EF 74" Yak might be available at lindinger.au for European modellers. I guess I'd better check that alternative out, as well.. regards |
