I 'xpect the 9157 are really good too
Why use long arms? You start to lose torque after an inch. All servos are rated at 1 inch arms.

Hi
I have heard that many of the servos are made in the same factory, with just another name on them. Is there any truth to this?

I don't know exaclty, but I don't think so, because they are close in performance, but they aren't equal in all aspects...

I'm a fan of JR stuff not cuz its the best. I don't think its any better than other brands.......it's just what I like and familiar with / setup for, so my choice is the 8711HV's. I'm changing all my older 8711's to the new ones and its costing me a small fortune. Doing it now because I will end up doing it later eventually. I guess keeping with a brand also has its benefits. All servo arms are the same so theres no need to buy for two types.

Hover!!! Great to see you around here as well!!

You should really have made this poll a multiple choice one... I have JR8711's and Hitec 5955TG's and 7955TG's. I like them all.

If I was buying servos today, I'd probably be in a doubt between the 8711's and the 7950TH's, as they are both awesome servos. The 7950 has the advantage of being a high voltage servo, akin to the 8711HV, but with a better price and titanium gears... Hmmm, tough decision!!

The best way to minimize slop, and keep forces low on the hinge and pushrod and the servo is with a long servo arm AND a long Control horn on the flipper....

Basically, 3D guys go for about 45 degrees of deflection... using a 2'ish inch servo arm and a 2'ish inch control horn will have lower forces on the system then if both are 1'ish inches

that is only correct assuming that the surface horn will be kept the same length.

Its a ratio, you have 2" servo 1" surface you have 1/2 the torque
If you have 2" servo and 2" surface you have 1/1 torque
if you have 1" servo and 2" surface you have 2/1 torque

And adding to what Ian said. A longer surface horn in relation to the servo arm puts less stress on the servo and gears.

I have posted this before . A ratio of 1:1 with the HiTec 7950 servo run off of straight A123 batteries is enough power to potentially damage the plane if you like flying at WOT and nailing the sticks. These servos center perfectly and don't jitter or wear out prematurely.

it is pretty tough to argue with the geartrain of the Hitec Titanium servos. i have had several 5955's and 7955's and i am looking forward to trying the 7950's! i will mention as well that my edge currently has 8711's on her and they sure are precise. the gears are noticably wearing though. oh well, gear sets are cheap.

you probably can't make a "Bad" decision on any of the products listed here! with that being said, maybe you will wish to go with what the guys you fly with are familiar with. it is always good to have other folks at the field that are familiar with your products so in time of question, there are answers!

good luck to you!
