Hi,
i need a help to chose my first 50cc plane. I donīt know wich one i will chose: Extreme Flight Extra 300 88' or the Pilot-Rc Yak 54 30%. I know that the 2 companys have yaks and extras, but i like the blue flame color scheme from Pilot-Rc, and i like the extra 300 from Extreme Flight. What the pros and cons on boths planes? I like to fly 3D and IMAC, but i think i fly more 3D than IMAC. I leave 900m(2700ft) about the sea level. Can you help me with the plane and the best setup? My setup probably will be: DLE 55 (i donīt know if i will use a canister-pipe or a pitts muffler), a Xoar 22x8 for break in, 5 hitec 7955TG, 1 jr821 from throtle, Rx JR921 2.4ghz, radio will be a JR 9303 2.4ghz. I wonīt use smoke system to save weight. I am thinking to use a IBEF, to eliminate the batterie from Ignition. 2 batteries from redundancy to Rx and i donīt know if i will use a NIMH, lipo or a123. I wonīt use a smartfly, i think it is not necessary. If i use the IBEF, i donīt need to use a kill engine system. I fly about 7-8 flights per day, 3D and IMAC, but more 3D. I was thinking to use 2 a123 2cell 2600 each one. But i donīt know if this will be enought to fly 7 flights per day and to keep the ignition working. If i use a a123 need i use regulators? What do you think about this setup? Sorry my english, i am from Brazil. Thanks, Thiago. Last edited by chamma; 09-21-2009 at 04:11 PM. |

Your English is very good.
I have the Extreme Flight Extra and Yak. They are great 3D machines. They also do IMAC but I'm no IMAC pro. More 3D. All of the planes mentioned in this thread so far are winners IMO. Don't forget the AJ Slick.

You dont really need two a123 packs as it kind of defeats the purpose of the ibec. One is fine and they charge in about 10 min. As for the plane both are great but its a personal preference since extras and yaks dont fly the same.

if you go with 2 1100mah a123's you will still have the capacity and weight of a single 2200mah a123 but the redundency of 2 batteries. and you can charge them very fast. im still on the fence using a ibe but if you use a 4.8v nimah battery for ignition and keep it around 1500mah it will only be around 4oz or less. the dle ignition must be kept under 6.0v

James,
i never used a123 before. What kind of charger i must use for this batteries? I will have to use a cycler (like a TRITON) to this batterie or she never lost his capacity? So if i go with 2 2cell 1100 a123, i will fly like 2 flights, than charger the batteries at the field and than fly again. And what kind of swich should i use? Last question, if the ignition works if maximum of 6.0V and this a123 6.6v should i use a regulator? |

my set up is 2 1100mah a123's with a 4.8v nimh 1500mah on ignition. total weight is 9oz. i also use a fromeco wolverine switch for reciever. and yes if its a 6v battery or higher you need a regulator to ensure your ignition remains reliable. i use a cellpro charger. but the triton might work. there are alot of chargers that charge a123's. i think you would be able to fly most of the day on one charge but you will need to check the batteries after 1 or 2 flights to see what kind of mah you are using.

both the 3D hobbyshops AJ slick and the Extreme flight Yak fly great. You can not go wrong with either and they are really great companies to deal with.
