Default Krill Thunder 3D Build Thread!

Well, what everyone has been waiting for
My Krill Thunder 3D arrived today, pics will follow very shortly, but for now here is the set up I'm going to use:

Model: Krill Thunder 3D (thanks to www.flykrill.co.uk (UK sales agents for krill models)for sorting this out for me)

Motor: AXI 5320/18 (APC-e 20x8) ------ Now going with the AXI 5325/16 and APC-e 22x10

Speed Controller: Jeti SPIN 99 (Many thanks to Paul at www.electricwingman.co.uk for a superb service when I ordered these)

Radio Gear;
Servos:
Ailerons and Elevator Hitec HS 7965MG
Rudder Hitec HS 7985MG
Futaba receiver
(Many thanks to Shaun at Vulcan Hobbies for sorting these out for me, www.vulcanhobbies.co.uk)

Will be running a lipo on servos as well, using a smartfly reg and 1800mAh lipo

Lipos I will be running 6S only, yep 6S, hoping to get the AUW to under 5kgs, so hoping it should have very good performance

Lipos: Overlander 35C 6S 4400mAh (Many thanks to overlander, www.overlander.co.uk)

Wingbags: available from Revoc through www.flykrill.co.uk.

I think that just about covers everything! I'll kick the thread off with lots and lots of pics a little bit later, build won't be a mega fast build as I'm in Uni now so will be taking my time with the build

Going to be a while before she flies, as I say not rushing it, got a lot going on with Uni at the moment, so most of the build will be at weekends.

Right some pics to kick things off, just as it has come out of the box, quality is simply stunning, the finish on the model is superb and it weighs practically nothing! Going to be very light I hope

Well packaged, all parts wrapped individually and in two boxes as can be seen.

Some pics of the individual parts now.

Cowl, what cowl! nicely finished, and fitted with a carbon fibre plate at the front, I notice that on the prototype they had the motor mounted by the looks of it to the actual cowl so I think that's the idea behind the CF plate, but there is also some wooden former included that assemble to make the motor box, that is what I will be using to mount the motor.

Tailplane, not much to do at all here either, the tail comes prehinged, with the rod already in place holding the elevators on, so no hinging or gluing required, only thin needed is to install the horns and work out whether or not I want to leave the tail on permanently or make it removable, in which case I will put a bolt in either tailplane section through the spar to secure the tail and make it removable.

Also some pics of the revoc bags I've had done for the model

carrying on.....

Rudder, even the rudder has some funny angles and steps on it, but must admit now its here I love the look of it even more in the flesh!
Complete with rudder bag as well

Wings, again the finish is superb and they are stupidly light! Servos are put in from where the wing meets the fuz, all cut out even with the servo holes pre cut in the former.
Horn holes pre cut in the ailerons as well as a slot pre cut in the wing to accommodate the servo control arm, although after seeing the sheer size of the ailerons and the amount of movement I'm going to be able to get, I think I will open these up a bit, but will only know for sure when I get the servos in.

Wings locate on to the fuz with a carbon fibre wing tube and outer to locate the wing tube, and then simply attach using two nylon bolts, all holes pre cut in the fuz and wooden circular formers glassed in as well as blind nuts all pre installed in the wing.

The fuz!

Well again first noticeable thing is the weight of the fuz, it weighs practically nothing at all, my AUW target is looking easily manageable.

Some funky shapes on the fuz as well, especially in the canopy.

Undercrackers is held on by sliding the 2 carbon legs in to the pre cut slots in the fuz then an epoxy plate bolts down to lock them in place. There is a small piece of wood that sits at the back in the centre on the former as well to stop the legs kicking back when final position is determined. Also a re installed blind nut is installed to bolt the legs in the centre as well.

Hardware supplied included full set of fibreglass epoxy horns, hinges for hinging the rudder, fixings as well as the other wooden components for making up the motor box.

Just some general built up pics to finish off for now, showing some of the great angles of this model! as well as the insane movement on the control surfaces

Thanks Ido, that's both brilliant and insane! I can't wait to get mine flying now, won't have the moveable CG tray in, but that may be one for the future

I have been bugging the US dist to get one of these for me. I call him at least once a week and he keeps saying just wait it will be here. It's good to finally see video!

Are the sliding battery trays available in the US. I don't see any order info on the link.

But now the wait is that much harder.
