Default 50CC Power setup?

Hey guys I had a few questions about setting up a good and trusting power system. I have a Great Planes Reactor with a DL-50. I was thinking of getting a Fromeco Sahara regulator and using a 2s lipo pack. Should I be running two batteries for the receiver? Would I then need two regulators? Is the Sahara a good choice?

Thanks,
Dave

2 1300mah lipo's would work fine. or in that range. and use a 4.8v nimh 1500 mah for ignition. or if you would want to go a123, 2 1100mah would work great. http://www.radiosouthrc.com/safe_switch.htm they sell good stuff if want a reg.

Thanks for the reply. Would 2 Fromeco 2600's Li Ions be overkill for my plane? I would then need 2 regs correct? I was thinking of using the SmartFly Battshare.

in my opinion it would be alot of power. i and other people i know use that much in a 35%er. it all depends on how long you want to fly without charging. but if you have them us them. those batterys with a radio south reg will only be around 9oz total

I would like to get more flight time but if weight is a problem then I will go for the smaller packs. The two regulators would then go to the battshare if I wind up using that correct?

if it were me i would go ahead and use the 2600 li-ions because they are light for there output and use the smartfly sport reg with a fail safe switch http://smart-fly.com/Products/Regulator/3.htm.

Hear is what I have, but do not recommend it. I use two A123's, both have 2 plugs going into the rx and one goes to the ignition.
Light, powerfully, and can be charged in minutes. No regs, power boxes, etc. just two switches.

I like the Fromeco Regulator and lithium ions because of the constant voltage under load. Your servos will always have the same torque and speed at the beging of the day and the end. Also If you run two packs you get the saftey of a redundecy system. Also lithium ions are alot lighter than A123's For example one 4600 a123 is 11oz while one 5200 lithium ion is only 6.6. two 2600 will be plunny for a reactor. My reactor only had one 2600 in it for along time and it powerd everything nicely. However that really is not recomended becasue of the amp draw on one pack from a 50cc plane. I personaly perfer the lithium ions because of weight and ability to charge them(i dont have a a123 charger).

One thing nice about a123 is that you can charge at 8 amps and discharge at over 60 amps. If you don't mind charging every few flights you can run very small a123's. You could regulate them too, but I have never really noticed them fading or dropping off from first to last flight, they are very flat on their discharge curve. It is not recommended to load test them because of this.

I understand you can't recommend your system, and I understand why, but I assume it is working well for you ? I have an 1100 A123 on the radio in a 1/4 scale plane, but still a 4.8 NiMH on ignition, running a G26 that I think a friend of yours has had something to do with . I was considering going to a 2300 (recharging every 2 - 3 flights now, but it only takes 3 minutes) to move a little weight back without gaining any. Was thinking going to a 2300 A123 and using the same battery with a regulator for ignition, allowing me to lose the "heavy" battery up front....

You could do that, but I would go with two 1100's.
The rcxcell ignition is not recommended for the voltage I run, but it has run fine for over 100 flights.

Why would you not recommend your setup? Seems odd to me. Personally, I have a single 2400mah A123 running everything. Works great and is simple. Several guys at the field have the same setup with no problems either. Cheap, reliable, and no extra components. I fly 4 10 minute flights before recharging and it still never takes more than 1000mah.

Many people use a similar set up running the rx and ignition off of the same battery, I do not recommend it because of potential problems that might occur with some lesser quality radio systems, ignitions, etc., and I don't want to be blamed for it.

i still am on the fence on that one. sounds great untill something bad happens. i just use 4.8 packs and under 4oz and feel alittle safer.
