Boy,
I post and the thread goes completely dead! I have a question for hosertoo, did you use a DA-50? If you did, what standoffs did you use, 2-1/2" or 3"? I've got a DA-50 with 3" standoffs that can't wait to be on one of these! Joe

Hosertoo used a DA-50 and had to make some additional standoffs to get the engine as far forward as possible w/out hitting the cowling. not sure on the exact length of the standoffs....

Ok, it looks like the 100cc airplane needs a 2.5" standoff and the 50cc model needs the 3" standoff, so you should be peerfect! Bill Hempel |

i did use a DA50 (what other engine is there?) with 3" stand offs. I also added 1 1/8" ply standoffs behind those to get the spinner backplate 1" in front of the cowl. Sorry about the delay in posting but Bill is right, we are all working on getting these done. The scratched spinner is easy to duplicate, just have the engine quit while out over the desert and then land on the top strand of barb wire while attempting to make it back to the field.

I can't believe there aren't any prototypes in Phoenix.

Don't apologize, go build, go fly! Well, I have a scratched carbon fiber spinner right here, that should get the job done! So are they going to stretch the motor box on the next round? If they are building them right now (or better yet packing them in the container) forget it (I don't want anything to delay getting mine!), I don't mind adding a stand-off box (4 1" square wood standoffs boxed together with ply works great and is lighter weight than solid ply) but since these are protos is that something that might get changed? After watching jagerbomb throw his Krill version of this around, I've been impatiently waiting for somebody to come out with one of these in sizes I could handle. Bill Hempel quality in a plane I can fit in my budget / truck, now we are talkin'!

Work me a deal on a 150 size and I will make sure it shows up to 5 or 6 contest this year in the southwest region. Have a motor and servos ready to go.

Okay, business end is pretty much done. Just need to run extensions from the main batts to the receiver and set the tx for the throttle. In an attempt to be proactive, I mounted the main batts(two A123 1100's) up front, forward of the firewall. The two of these that are flying now needed their batteries(both running dual 5200 fromecos) up in the engine box to balance. I am hoping this is enough, although both the other guys ran a CG-mounted tank and mine is in front of the wing tube. I plan to balance mine with a half-tank of fuel.
Kind of a quick-n-dirty setup for me, but it should be fine:
