Well it had to happen here is the first confirmed loss of a Hemple Yak. I wish I could say it was pilot error but truth be told the tail just blew off.
JUST KIDDING BILLY, weather was crap and windy and the plane was in a nice harrier and the rest is history. I feel bad for steve, everything lived but a few servos and the engine might have to go to DA. As far as the plane I know they come with a no nonsense 100 percent replacement warranty, now that is good customer service and now we get to put it to the test. As for the fire we have an unwritten rule at our field that all our planes are returned to where they came from, RIP.

Well here is the crash scene, always love a good crash on a Sunday afternoon, crap happens just got away from me heading downwind in a strong breeze. Got to say its one of the best 3D planes I've owned. "note" the landing laying across the trutledeck thats where it landed in the crash Last edited by Extra 260 nut; 12-06-2009 at 10:07 PM. |

Wow, what a loss. I am glad that I had already left for the day because it looks by the picture, you crashed right where I had parked my car in the parking lot. Good thing no one was hurt crashing behind the flight line. Not sure if burning the airplane is such a good idea either as some people's trash is others treasures. I know a few people in the club would have loved to have had the opportunity to repair that airframe. I could have had a fuslege/cowling in the next container shipping next week for you Steve if you had just not bowed to peer preasure to light it up.
Anyway, sorry to see this go in, I know you had a blast flying it!! BH Last edited by toc pilot; 12-07-2009 at 09:22 AM. |

I think the only thing he burned was the fuselage and cowl. Wings and things didn't look like they were in the fire. Still, it didn't look that bad that you could not have repaired it.

Nah, it crashed out by the East end fence, Jeff's truck is in the picture cuz it was to cold and to crappy to walk. Bill you know the rules at TRCC don't play naive. As for the plane, ease up fellas, the fuselage was done, motor box gone, fuel tank went through floor and tail was completely broken off and most stringers broken. Sure anything can be fixed but you would have a gallon of 30 minute in the air for tail weight. Everything usable was kept, canopy had no marks and stabs and rudder and wings are totally cosmetic. In fact parts of the rudder is already claimed for another YAK!!! Bill if you can get a Fuselage I think Steve would jump at the opportunity??? Lastly in the pictures you can see the gear laying on the backbone. That is how it was when we got there. No one could even come up with a half brained idea how it could end up there? Never even hit the bottom of wing??? Any ideas?
