Default Krill Yak 55

I've just built mine and thought I'd post a few photo's of the build etc.

I maidened it today and it is brilliant

Setup is DA 170 on Zimmerman twin exit cans. These cans aren't found much in the US but you chaps are missing out. They are stainless steel, so sound great yet are still very light. Throttling is excellent. These are made in Germany. They have been tuned on Mercedes test equipment and performance is very good. I have them on my 150 as well.

Using 8711HV's all round, JR 1222 rx with twin Thunder Power 4200 2s lipos.

I added some carbon in the build, which isn't really necessary but thought it couldn't hurt.

Andrew, Can you give me some more info on the cans ? Website maybe and do they make them for a 3W-150. I mean do they also have headers for this engine or they just make the cans?
Thanks,
Steve Mullis

They do have a website - but it's not very good! I use the website of their UK dealer which gives me a slightly better picture http://www.motorsandrotors.com/home.htm - then click on product index on the left hand side, then scroll down to Exhausts and click on Zimmerman.

Please note prices on here will be higher than prices in the US because they include UK VAT which doesn't apply to international orders.

Basically - yes they do cans for the 150 and can supply headers. I know of many guys running these on 3w 150's and 170's in Europe. I'm currently using flex headers on my Yak (not from Zimmerman) but am tired of the flex section blowing, so have some solid headers on order from Zimmerman. They will custom make anything you want but they also have standard set ups for lot's of applications.

I get my bits through one of their dealers, Dave Wilshere, (also a comp arf rep) in the UK and he just ships direct. I have a couple of guys who are buying cans from him in the US right now and the prices seem to be competitive with the shipping.

You can either email Dave Wilshere direct @ motrot@aol.com or I can help out if you drop me a pm.

Really like the scheme.

Did you get those vents from Krill or are they the comp arf ones? I think installing them like that in the cowl is a great idea.
I also found with my Yak, I had to fit some carbon rod or a pilot tray in the canopy to help reinforce it laterally. Otherwise it pops out at the sides in flight (which is why there is a bit of red tape on mine in the photo's which was holding it until I mad the mod).

I got the vents from Tates Hobbies here in Aus. so I don't know if they are from Krill. I think there too high for Comp-arf. They are cut in and put in from the inside. you can bolt them or Hysol them in. I'm going to paint them black when things settle down. Thanks for the tip on the canopy.
