I have a question- Has anyone built a P-40 from a kit, where they put a converted Ryobi 31 cc weed wacker engine into the cowling?? What kit was it? What was the wing span? Was there enough power in the Ryobi (dumb question- there's NEVER enough power).
Any thoughts guys? |

flew a model with a Ryobi 31cc engine on it. it was NOT a P-40 though, it was a hideous Coroplast plane that a friend of mine built. i volunteered to be "test pilot" turns out it was terribly tail heavy, nearly impossible to fly. first flight went ok, but friend had not vented the fuel tank so it went lean and quit shortly into the flight. second flight after solving vent problem, the engine ran great, seemed to make decent, smooth power. however, at anything above 1/4 throttle the tail section of my friend's plane would flutter violently. then as i was executing a beautiful 0 of 8 manuver inbound across the box, the wings collapsed and the whole thing turned into a lawn dart...
back to the P-40, i'm not too sure of a kit that would fit this motor but they seem to run well! -Matt |
