Hey guys,
I am just finishing up my Balsa USA 1/4 Cub. I finished it with the Stits Lite Polyfiber fabric system and paint. One of the paint layers that is used under the color coats is an aluminum paint that acts as a primer and adds opacity to the paint job. This aluminum paint contains talcum powder and aluminum dust. When used on full scale planes it's main purpose is to protect the fabric fom UV light. Anyway, my question is will this aluminum dust in the paint degrade my 2.4 GHz Spektrum radio? I know 2.4 has some issues and metal is one of them. Does anyone on here have any experience with with this aluminum paint and 2.4 GHz? I called Horizon tech support and asked them and they said that no, it would not be a problem. I definitely value Horizon's word, but I was just curious if anyone on here has had any experience. Thanks, Travis |

I'm a Raccoon...

On my PL Products Partner (pattern plane), I am running an R921 receiver with two satellites. The fuse is essentially carbon fiber from the spinner to the rear of the canopy and the main receiver and one of the satellites is mounted in this area. I'm running a YS 1.70cdi with the ignition plugged directly into the receiver. The entire fuse is painted in pearl and metallic chromabase with metal flake in the clear coat. I've had zero issues- all of the receivers check out with under 40 fades and zero holds on the data logger.
You should be fine. Although silver is likely to be denser than the metal flakes and pearl paint I have, the carbon fiber in my fuse will probably be similar to what you'll have. Range testing is the acid test, but I would not anticipate on having any trouble. Good luck with your airplane! |

Breadbowl,
Thanks for the firsthand experience recount! That makes me feel alot better that this thing won't be an issue. I will definitely give it a good range test before flying and see what the Data Logger has to say. I am also using the JR 921 with two satellites. Thanks again, Travis |

My experience with the 2.4 has been nothing but good,I have a Dave Platt Bucker that I built
27 years ago and never flew it until a few weeks ago,I had covered it with Coverrite and then proceded to paint it with Bell Aircraft Metillic Aluminum and also had many aluminum panels on the plane plus all the wires and so forth,I had tried AM, FM and PCM but always had lot of interference so for all the time I spent building it I didn't want to chance wrecking it or hurting someone,I read up on the 2.4"s and this seemed the way to go,I did a good range check and all seemed OK,So far I have flown it 6 times and no problems Bob |
