Just wondering who is or was the first member of FG?
None moderator or staff of course.

When the Giants started I wasn't a staff member and I was #32. That was about 15 minutes after the site started.

You got me wondering so I did a quick check. Sorting the member list by join date this is what I came up with.

Bevers is the first shown as user #19 join date of 1-01-2005. I don't know if there was an error with the date, the site actually started 1-01-2006 Last post 1-18-2006

Paffy #20 Join date, again Join date 1-01-2005. Last post 9-07-2009 So still active.

Feral63 #21 shows the actual starting date of 1-01-2006. Last post 09-16-2009. Still active.

It was fun looking back and remembering the early days of the Flying Giants.

The first day of opperation 644 people joined the site.

average 32 new members, 32 new threads and 639 posts per day.

Hey thanks for the info Wizard. Must be kinda nice to look back all them years and think about what it was like. I dunno why it took me so long to find this place even though I have been involved in the hobby over 30 yrs in total.

Perhaps you could explain something else of interest?
Who started the giants?
How did it come to fruition?
Why or how did the staff members become a part of the site when they are spread across the globe?

I know (think I am right on this) Max put the software side of the site together but theres still some holes in the story I would be greatly interested in finding out about.

My guess is that Mad Max is #1. He designed the site. As far as the origin of the site, it came out of FlyingCirkus.com, which, as was posted before, has several sides to the issues.

Several sides to the issues huh? Oh well I don't wanna get into politics, just interested in learning more about the sites beginnings and where it all stemmed from, which you answered Fiddy.
The site is certainly better orchestrated than several others and this adds to my interest level.

50% is right MadMax is member #1 He designed the site and spent 2 years of his life dedicated to making it the site it is today. He is still active as his role as moderator, but has stepped back from being the driving force. Becoming a daddy will do that to you. Last year he sold the site to Jim Bourke, who also owns RCGroups and Knife Edge Software. Jim Hired SleepyC to be the full time person to handle the day to day operations of the site. The moderation of the site continues much the same as it has from day one.

As to the staff members being spread all over, it was that way from day one. The original staff members were friends that had been made through the hobby and helped the site get going and set the tone for the site.

There have been additions to the site over time, such as myself. These additions are discussed at length between the current staff, with the desire to bring more to the knowledge base, as well as covering more areas.

There have been a few staff members leave over time due to life changes such as job changes, or relationship changes. We have been sad to see them leave the position but still consider them friends.

This is a quick view of the past, but shows some of the history.

Awwww hey Wizard thanks so much for that info it really helped fill in thew missing pieces I've wanted to know.
I think because I like the general tone, layout and attitude of the site and its members. I take more interest in the behind the scenes aspect which I never did when i was a member of another forum.

This site and all the members? I wouldn't have it any other way! All of you are the best! (Even the knotheads) FG is my pick me up every day. I started my new job three weeks ago and still can make time to check in every morning and night. It don't get any better than that!
