Default 3D WARBIRD!!! A Real Build Thread!

ok heres the plan, imm going to start this from the box to the air (or ground) and end it with a video.
i have a dynaflite pt-19 89" kit, its my first kit build and i have no idea what imm doing. so heres what i want to do.
1. take the dihedral out of the wing, make it prefictly straight.
2. make the rudder huge with a counter balincer on it like a yak.
3. make the elevader huge with counter balencers on them.
4. make the aielerons huge too.
5. put a dle55 on the front because i have one. it only calls for a 26cc or something but who cares, it wont hover with a 26!!!

if you dont think it will work, cool, tell me why it wont. if you think it will, cool, give me some pointers on how to build this thing because like i said, i have no idea what imm doing so maybe thats why it will work.

so the build starts now
i went to lowes and got a 36" wide door to build it on cus thats how wide the plans are.
heres a pic with a 22x8 prop in front of it just to give me an idea and it made me pretty happy cus it had 4" of clearence with the tail up. my 30% yak only has 3" but that has a 23a

Um yeah.......why not Lou..most anything can be made 3D with some knowledge and I guess this will also do ummmmmm some of what your expecting, but it wont do it well you know that?

I'll help you with the build if you like. Just say what you want and I'll try to give you some help.

Well your half way there already ......looks like you have the technical talk worked out

If you use counter balances make sure to reinforce the elevator, also use good strong servos. It can be done, I suggest you copy the plans of the elevator/rudder/aileron and modify the picture until you get the best result and post the pictures of your ideas on here.

ok i just got the left side of the fuse done, tommorow i have to do the bulkheads and glue em together.

yeah theres no carbon tubes in this thing i dont know how they expect it to stay together. imm going to try to put one in the stab but its so thin on the plans, imm going to try to re do the whole stab desighn but try to keep the basic outline, just extended on the back. the wing will be heavily modified but its gona be a while till i get to that.

does any body have any carbon wing and stab tubes and socket tubes laying around???

Dont get trapped into thinking that CF tubes and such are a basic requirement of a 3D model. Your stab can be a one piece bolt on item or even glued in permanently. Same for wings they dont have to be split the only reason they are in two parts is for transportation. Carbon fiber everything isnt necessary you can reduce weight in many other places but this will need some thought on the design and the eventual pros and cons of doing XYZ.

If your tail is too thin then supplement some of the wood with harder material. If its built as an open structure put a spruce doubler inside. if fully sheeted make a spar.

You gonna make the wing fully symmetrical ?
What about altering your datum lines to reduce coupling?

imm thinking make the rudder and elevaders about the same size as my yak. the aielerons on my yak are small and not as effective like the extreme flight yak, those things work great. so imm thinking about the size as the EF yak's aielerons.

Lou, a couple friends and I did a Giant P-38 lightning because they turned a bunch of our 3D events in to GS War Bird events and banned 3D planes, it was nice seeing a lightning hovering on the deck. We have done it with a few other birds too and the PT19 is not the best idea because of the wing to tail orientation and wash out in inverted harriers, but it will work. We have also in the past done a Mustang, Spit, Zero and a corsair not to mention re working the wing and control surfaces of many WWI biplanes to make them fly 3D.

imm not really worried about taking it apart, imm just worried if making this thing out of just wood it will break apart. imm kind of worried about the stab ripping off when imm rumming it up.
i build a lot of foamies and ill see the stab flexing when they roll fast so i guess thats where i was getting the idea to make it strong. where do i get spruce?
