Well guys one of the giants Monty on here donated his old edge 540 that hit the ground to me. It needs a good bit of work but I really wanted a big edge and was looking at getting one. When I got a call from him today asking if I wanted his. I will try to do a rebuild trend on the plane. This is my first repair also btw. I have only built ARF's so far. But I have a good idea of what I need to do and I hope some builders will jump in here with suggestions. So far I have looked over the plane and striped down the covering on the fuse. Only the bottom half of the fuse needs rebuilding.
Things that need work -cowling mount needs to be fixed - Motorbox needs to be fixed or replaced. -firewall needs work -wing area needs some supports replaced and resheeted -sides of fuse needs sheeting work -stab area needs repair -a few cracked ribs. -some joints need regluing -one of the wings have alittle sheeting damage on the tip I think that is all the damage accounted for today. I opened up the rear end of the plane alittle and that shouldnt be to bad. The front half will be the challenge for me. Here are some pictures from tonights work. The Good. -foam belly pan is intacted -turtle neck is intacted -wings are in good shape -stabs dont need work -canopy is new -wheel pants and landing gear are good to go |

Thanks for posting those pics. You did a real nice job painting it. Did you also do the monocoat on it by any chance. If so do you remember what color and make of covering you used. I am trying to only strip the yellow section. that is where all the damage is and I want to salvage the blue section due to the alsome scheme this plane has.

I didnt do the covering. I bet it sucked stripping her! The person that covered it used balsa rite. DONT USE THAT! Its ultracote cub yellow and you will have to ask Monty what blue that is. Its Ultracote as well. Good luck with it. You will like that plane. Flies real stable.

Thanks John, The covering is not to bad. I dont think I will have to tear up the blue. I think I can fix every thing with just messing up the yellow. I should have some progress done on it in the next few days.

I remember that plane also, I built it. It came out real nice but there were changes made between that one and the one I built for Nelon. If you need anything(parts) just let me know. Rob

They Guys I am hoping to be able to rip in her some more tonight.
Rob it looks like I have a good base build to work off of. I will need to find out from you what size wing and stab tubes this thing takes. |

Hey Tom,
You sure didn't waste any time tearing into that plane. I have some more parts at the house I forgot to bring over. ( the wing tube, stab tube, and the tail hatch cover) I think I have more of the Cub Yellow and Midnight Blue ultracoat here also. I'll call you later.

Here are some more photos. I has to tear off the blue tonight to fix a few problems that I noticed when working on the rest of the Fuse. Im still waiting on some parts so what I can do is limited.
Where the rudder attaches to the fuse I had some cracks in that joint area so I ripped the sheeting off and checked it out. I think its just the sheeting crack joint cracking, but it is better to be safe then sorry. I will be looking into this a little more just to make sure. I am also in the proccess of repairing one of the bottom stringers. I have the stringer cut out and a new one made to replace it. I just need to do some touch up sanding to make it fit right. Then I need to clean up a few joints that crack so that I can glue them all at once. Some of the pictures are so that Matt can see what I need but some of the other ones show my progress. PLEASE SINCE THIS IS MY FIRST BUILD I KNOW THERE MIGHT BE BETTER AND EASIER WAYS TO ACCOMPLISH SOMETHING. IF YOU SEE SOMETHING THAT MIGHT HELP ME OUT PLEASE LET ME KNOW. Thanks Tom Plane Addicts |
