After i got my extra started a little while ago I put my radio on the ground to untie the plane( i was alone) and right after i sat the radio down i heard a beep and the engine went to about half throttle and crashed into a pile of rocks. when i looked at the screen on the tx it has reverted to the last model that i had used. Once i had a moment to cool off i found that if the tx is shocked too much from the BOTTOM it will cause the radio to reset. I am assuming that the batteries loose contact. I have found that if i hold the tx (DX6i and dx7) from the antenna about 2 inches off the ground and drop it, it will reset most of the time......repair bill: Brand new prop (never flown), destroyed landing gear, ignition, spinner, and cowl. Very very bad day

Man lucky you were not hurt! That would be worse than any toy plane. I have never had that issue happen but if it happened to me I would send in my radio to get looked at. Perhaps find a way to pad or protect what causes the radio to reset.

Yeh, that's how I change models on my Tx...I just keep dropping my Tx until I get to the model I want.

Why in the world would you have an unsecured plane with a running motor on it and not have hold of the transmitter? That's a recipe for disaster. Surely you can unhook the plane while you still have the transmitter. If not, find a better way to do it.

#1 why would you set your radio on the ground with your engine running? #2 what radio are you using? Does it take AA batts, or a battery pack? #3 why would you practice dropping your radio on the ground? #4 what does this have to do with spektrum??? Me thinks that if you dropped a 72 Mhz version, it would have done the same. JMO, Chris

Yea ALWAYS keep your transmitter in your hand, with your thumb over and holding down the throttle.
NEVER EVER just leave it on the ground!

Get yourself one of them H frame restraint thingies. (not technical name for it) Then you can use one hand to lift the frame off and tilt the tail up off the remaining frame in the ground.....done

What if he has to lift his plane out of the restraint?
Why do we feel the need to apply a general rule about not putting the tx down when there would be plenty of ways of doing just that perfectly safely. I think I'd rather he put it down than have it wildly swinging about his neck as he lifts his model, bumps the throttle and... |

Myself I set my transmitter down. I avoid at all costs dropping it. If I am flying by myself I have the TX on the ground nearby with the plane in a restraint.
