inicol,

I am very glad you are doing this build thread. We are all watching.

Gald Tony is sending replacement wings, but the question still remains. Do they ship the wings wrapped only in a single cardboard box with Styrofoam mold around the wings? Will they be sending 2nd set the same way? Do you have to pay shipping again? These are very important questions many would like to know. From what I see in the pictures, the damage was not DHL damage, but extremely poor shipping. Does Pilot-RC realize this? I have received dozens of planes via shipping and have never had one shipped this way.... Yet. We need to have confidence in appropriate shipping.

Codfish

Tony is shipping the replacement free of charge, Yes the box is only 1 x box with a hollowed foam core containing the wings.

I have had several kit shipped this way by DHL with no problem at all

In the past I have received Pilots kits in wooden boxes damaged by DHL, I have received double boxed with 3mm hardboard lining again damaged but this is the first kit in Pilots new shipping mehod I have had damaged. This is the only box type where I have received shipment undamaged by DHL (untill now that is)

I do not know how you can say this was not DHL's fault as the box has a BOOT PRINT where the box was crushed,

Below is some other examples of DHL's excelent service, sorry I ment damage

inicol,

Thanks for replying.

Tony is to be commended for sending you a new wing free of charge, and so quickly.

I realize any shipper can destroy any package, no matter how it's shipped. When I first saw the picture of the wings at the factory ready for dispatch, my thought was the Styrofoam core looks very thin and weak. I assumed it would be anchored inside another box giving it needed support for shipping. When I saw the received box, I realized the main strength of the box was the wing itself. I was not surprised it was damaged the way it was. You did not say there was a boot print on the box. I believe it would not take a boot to destroy the contents, just normal shipping. If it was me I would have been rather upset.

I really like what I have learned about Pilot-RC and Tony so far, I want him to succeed with his new company. I do however think he needs to find a better way to package. I know he can do it.

Tony,
Take a look at the packaging Great Planes uses. It is rather secure and I don't think to expensive.

Looking forward to the rest of the build!

Thank you
Codfish

Hi guys

Finally started on the build, after the disappointment of the transit damage, hopefully the new wings will not delay the build to long.

I have changed my initial set up from the DLE111 twin to the ZDZ 80RV-J for power the reasons being I thought there would be to much of the single hanging out of the cowl, but the ZDZ 80RV-j fits completely inside the bottom airscoop (most currently available 80cc and 85cc singles should also fit)

Tonight I drew up the can formers and drilled the bulkhead to mount the engine, the can formers (for a JMB tr70 can) will be CNC cut and fitted at some point tomorrow with pictures (before anyone asks)

Hi guys

A little progress today the can formers are cut and fitted, because I am using a rear exhaust can and for access to the undercarriage bolts I have made the rear former fixed and the front can former removable.

Hi

I have just been trial fitting the engine, and came across a slight problem, with the ZDZ 80RV-J fitted inverted the side of the cylinder was touching the cowl, this was due to the offset due to the inbuilt right thrust.

The simplest solution I could find was to rotate the slightly anticlockwise to move the cylinder slightly to the left.

This has now been done and I am happy with the spinner/cowl alignment

Just decided to get one myself, electric with Neu 2215/1.5Y on 12s. JR 8711HV servos and EM batteries of course for max power. Should be a monster.

Hi Gugs

I am using the ZDZ80RV-J for the Sbach not the standard ZDZ 80rv

In the USA you call the RV-J the super 80

I have personally built and flown the Pilot 35% 260, Aeroworks 35% 260, hangar 9 35% 260, Pacific planes 35% 260 and QQ 102" yak on this engine and all have performed as well if not better than 100cc engines (of any manufacturer) in these models

In short yes this engine will have plenty of power for the 35% pilot Sbach, as soon as the model has flown I will post a video

Do you have the means to accurately weight the airplane and if so, will you be posting the all up weight?
