Hi Guys

Well a little more progress. The 2 sections of the cowl have now been fitted together and I am impressed with the fit

Fisrt I marked the bottom half of the cowl for the location of the reinfocing blocks and the centre line of the mounting screws I measured 1" from the bulkhead then 2 1/2" intervals going forward with the addition of 1 screw at either side of the spinner.

I then glued the plywood reinforcing blocks in place with 5 min epoxy clamped in place and while this was drying I marked a line all the way round the cowl top, placed the cowl top on the bench placed a pen flat on the bench and drew right round the cowl this gave a line approximateley 5mm from the base.

When the epoxy had cured the cowl top was then bolted onto the bulkead and the hatch fitted the makings from the cowl base were then extended upwards onto the cowl top and I then drilled a 1mm hole and fitted the srews at the marked locations, then trial fitted the spinner, it all fits perfectly

Next stage is fitting the radio so not long to go now, I was hoping to fly this weekend but the UK weather is not looking promising, fingers crossed.

There is even a shot of my neglected jelous 260 in the corner, if the weather is not flyable this weekend some more time on the 260 and who knows maybe 2 new models to test the same day

looking good.
I was a little disappointed to see you changed the motor to the zdz. as pilot sells them with the dl111 it would have been nice to see who it went together with it and a flight report. too late now by the look of thing ohh well

Custards

Have a look here as Pilots model used a standard DL100 with the supplied mufflers, the DLE 111 has more powerthan the 100 so this should give you an idea of what the model fly's like.

I chose the zdz80rv-j as the engine is completely inside the cowl, where possible I would always fit a lighter single over a twin 1 for simplicity and 2 for a lighter set up, this is assuming the single would balance the model with no added weight.

I have fitted the ZDZ 80RV-J but I do not yet know if the model will balance with this set up so the DLE 111 might still end up in the Sbach, watch this space

You did a great job on that cowl Iain. As for an 80cc I agree with your comments re installing a smaller engine does make the model lighter overall and the performance can be near identical to a larger heavier engine. If it flies well with an 80 then its a given the 100 will be fine also.

Nice job Iain!
I like the way your pictures show the process as it proceeds.

Question: How is the cowl mounted to the bulkhead? Are the screws accessed from inside the fuse? How do you adjust the length of the cowl to fit the engine thrust plate?

Thanks for continuing the Sbach even though the dejected 260 has to wait patiently for your attention.

Hi Guys

Not much progress to report, I am still waiting on the 7955 servos as my supplier is still out of stock, I had intended borrowing the new 7955 servos from my 47% Decthalon as these are new and hve only been fitted to the airframe and since I was waiting on the engine, but my engine for the Decathalon is being shipped to me on Tuesday

I need to decide

The only progress is I have measured up for extension leads now I have pretty muich finalised the position of the gear.

Throttle and choke servo's will be inside the engine box to the side of the carb and the receiver will be on the engine box floor in front of the tank, so with the instalation like this the extension lead lenghts are as follows

Elevator 2 x 1600mm
Rudder 1 x 350mm
Receiver to wings 2 x 500mm
Aileron 2 x 400mm

These leads are now made

The picture shows the decathalon tail next to the Sbach tail with what will probably be 2 x donor 7955 servos as well as servos from the other tail half and the rudder from my little decathalon which will be replaced later

Is the radio is a 2.4 Gig HZ? Just curious due to the proximity to the engine ignition. Putting it there to get as much weight up front as possible?

I have not decided yet which receiver to use whether it will be on 35 or 2.4 either way there will be no problem with the gear close to the ignition as ZDZ ignitions are fully shielded, I have used this in many models in the past with no problems at all

Yes I will be using 1 x 7955 in each wing as I have done on my 35% H9 260, aw 35 % 260, Pacific planes 35% 260 etc This is fine and as Pilot now manufacture the wings with 3 servo locations if you intend to use 1 servo use the middle hole and if using 2 use the two outside holes
