sorry no all up weight yet as the model is not yet finnished, just the throttle and choke servos finish with the reciever batteries regulator and switches and ignition to do now

Due to the cowl shape i would say yes but if in doudbt you could open up the inlet holes slightly and fit baffles to direct all the air over the cylinder

My engine is on its way over for my decathalon the new ZDZ 210RV-JS with on board starter hows, that for lazy? I am going to be busy over the next few weeks, just waiting on some more servos (due at the end of this month) then the decathalon will be started again. I still have my Pilot 80cc 260 to finish in between

Hi Guys

A little more progress and it is beginning to look good (if everything goes OK for first flights on saturday as the weather is looking awful for Sunday

Rudder servo in but I made a new servo head with a 5 degree offset to keep the gemetry correct and to keep the closed loop cables tight on both sides.

Fitted the throttle and choke servos in my favoured method which is double sided tape and a cable tie just in case, I have used this method for years and find it a very quick and easy method and the all important air filter

With a very quick check, the C of G looks to be no problem.

Finaly fit the receiver batteries and regulator and tidy up the instalation and secure all the cables etc and fit the axles, wheels and spats reasemble the model do the final balance and job done.

I will finish on saturday morning and head up the field when ready, with camera and video with all batteries charged and try the beast

Hi Iain,

Great build thread, I’m going to have to borrow those ideas in the future (for my pilot 73" yak when it arrives!! ) Especially the throttle and choke servo fitting! Hope the maiden goes well and the UK weather stays fine for the big day

Cheers

How is the 7955 performance on a plane this big. How much rudder command does it give. Are you going to use it directly with a 7.4V LiPo.

What about fluttering on aileron with on 7955

Hi

Give me a chance to fly it first!.

As stated earlier in this thread I have used this set up in several 35% models with no problems, I can not comment on this model untill I have flown it, later today, almost finished just got the final balance and tie down all the cables etc

Iain,

I like the airfilter setup. Where did you get it? I've often wondered why we run our engines with no airfilter and where i could get one.

Codfish

the airfilter is a ZDZ supplied item and works very well

I fit the spats to the undercarriage before I fit the wheels prop the fuselage level and fit a small spacer under the undercarrige to adjust the height of the spats in relation to the undercarriage hold spats level and drill the holes for the bolts remove fit the wheels and bolt on the spats

I fit the ignition in a similar way to the throttle servo but I use velcro instead of the double sided tape, the regulator is a flightec 8 amp which is fitted by cutting small sections of tygon as washers and simply screwing on with small self tapers (servo screws)

Time to check the C of G I do this between 25% and 33% average wing chord, plug both wing panels together on the bench measure out halfway on each panel measure the wing chord at this point then measure back 25% of the chord put a mark on the panel and repeat for the other side then again at 33%

Project a line between these marks and mark the wing root, then transfer to the fuselage, (i normally use the 30% for my starting piont) now pick an apropriate place on the internals and drill a hole on each side and fit a small bolt to each side these are used to suspend the entire model in order to balance the model.

Final check and off up the field to test run the engine, ZDZ 80RV-J on a JMB TR70 can with a Mejzlic 27 x 10TH prop.

Had a few problems with this today (down to a duff ignition, unusual on a new engine but heho) finaly got the engine test run and set, fitted the top half of the cowl, again quick test run, everything OK, leave to cool

Now for the flight, get the engine started again and fly:1 98:

All I can say is this is one of the smoothest models I have ever flown rock steady harriers, knife edge loops no problem (and on only 1 7955 servo)

Rather than me trying to explain how good this model is, I will let the video do the talking, which will hopefully be posted later today or tomorrow

Hanginback

Thanks, I am very pleased with the model, but I only managed to get one flight (there is a video which will be posted later) I will be going back up the field shortly and i should get some flying pictures this time, Yesterday I took the video camera but forgot the normal camera, taking both today

If the weather holds I should be flying today but it does not look good at present
