Its hard to not get enthused after opening up one of these kits. This is a new, just made 40% Carden 330 kit. When Carden introduced the "at that time" Extra 260, Dennis modified the wing airfoil from the origional 330 to a thinner mid section to the tip. The result produced a better snap characteristic. Now all of the 40% Extras from Carden has this new airfoil. The 260 and the Mid Wing 300 have the same wing raised up 1-1/2 inches from the stock 330. What we're going to do is build a 330 with a 260 motorbox. This will raise the wing to the same moments as the 260 and the 300. This will now be a Mid Wing 330.
I'm using the old style motorbox to cut/lighten to suit myself. I just like it better than the new lazer cut one, appearance to me looks cleaner, I've never had one fail, I"ll stick with this one on this plane, the extra work doesn't matter to me. The 330 has a 1-1/2 place cockpit which makes the front deck a little longer. The cowl has a slight blister on the top to blend with the spinner. The rudder is slightly longer on the bottom to the trailing edge and it has a bowed landing gear. I personally think this design is the prettiest Carden Extra out of the 3 they produce. With the raised wing, lighter foam, newer airfoil, lighter glasswork this should build out to be a very nice plane.

I've briefly looked over the kit. There's no damage, the wing sheeting for the 27 sheet bundle averages 28.2 grams per sheet. This was weighted with the packing tape still holding the bundle. This to me is absolutely perfect for wing sheeting. The templates for the motorbox were dug out and layed on the parts to be lightened up. The kit as you can see is really nice. I'll continue looking over this getting a mind set and tomorrow the dust will fly on this motorbox...I marked the plans to show the new wing tube location..
764grams divided by 27=28.2gram average

Looking forward to another masterpiece, Thanks for taking the time to post as you build, I know how much extra time that adds to the build.

Thanks for the kind words everybody..There's another kit coming which will be the same plane as this. One as I had mentioned in the canvass thread will be a sport flyer 'this one" and the other will be built for precision. I'll explain the differences in the geometry when this comes to play in the build. Boomer as always is ready..

It's about time we had a Carden on the table and to have two is even better.
Thanks Walt and Boomer we all have something to look forward to this fall.
