Anybody know anything about the KMP 87" Yak? I know it is no longer in production. What kind of reviews did it get? Anyone out there have one?

I have one.
It looks great. You HAVE to check every glue joint and try to make sure it has some glue EVERYWHERE. Besides that i love mine. I'm flying her this weekend. peep her: http://www.flyinggiants.com/forums/s...sleepy%27s+yak

HOWDY KARL! WHICH CLUB DO YOU BELONG TO IN BOISE? MY FAMILY AND I WILL BE MOVING TO MERIDIAN NEXT FRIDAY THE SECOND. ( IF I QUIT PLAYING WITH THE AIRPLANES AND START PACKING
) I HAVE HAD THE KMP YAK 54 FOR A LITTLE OVER A YEAR NOW AND IT IS THE MOST FUN I HAVE HAD IN 26 YEARS OF FLYING. IT WAS CHEAP, STRAIGHT, AND LUCKY FOR ME THIS ONE WAS LIGHT!! 16.5 LBS W/ZDZ 50 AND STOCK GEAR. LIKE EVERYONE ELSE I KNOW WHO BOUGHT ONE I TOO DID A FAIR AMOUNT OF GLUEING AND RECOVERING. ( I ONLY TOOK THE COVERING OFF THE BOTTOM AND DID ALL THE GLUEING FROM THERE) LET ME KNOW WHICH CLUB YOU BELONG TO. I HAVE VISITED BOTH AND HAVE TO SAY EVERYONE IS VERY COOL AT BOTH. I READ RECENTLY TRHAT BOISE WAS REDOING THEIR RUNWAY. IS IT DONE YET? HERE ARE SOME PICS.

Yea MAn...
Flew my KMP Yak today for the first time...GNARLY!! Little thing was a BALL. DA 50 pulled it like a champ! I had a CG issue that 2 cresent wrenches velcroed to the firewall fixed!! But MAN.. best $300 I have ever spent!

nose heavy?!?!
I wish I had that problem. I have a 4800 and a 2400 Fromoco batterys, ignition box and anything else I could bolt up front in the motor box... and mine is still tail heavy. I REALLY had to put 3 cresent wrenches velcroed in place on the motor box to get it to fly nicely today. I think I'm going to space the motor about 3/4 inch forward and see if I can't get this plane to CG properly! But still a great plane for the loot!

I fly with BARKS (Boise Area Radio Kontrol Society), would love to have you join. There are several good clubs and fields to fly at here. There are more guys flying the bigger gassers at the Nampa club. Thanks for the info on the Yak. Look me up when you get to town.

BTW, Doorguy1, if you like to golf you may want to know that the Nampa clubs field sits right on the edge of a golf course. You can literally walk over to some of the greens.

HOWDY KARL. WE MADE IT!!
NO MAJOR MALFUNCTIONS. JUST MINOR BUMPS AND BRUSES. I HAD PREVIOUSLY BEEN OUT TO THE NAMPA SITE. NICE FIELD. NICE PEOPLE. EXPENSIVE DUES! ( I GUESS IF YOU CAN AFFORD THE HOBBY YOU CAN AFFORD THE DUES RIGHT?) HAS THE BARKS FIELD GOT THE RUNWAY PROJECT DONE YET? I PLAN ON DRIVING OUT IN THE NEXT FEW DAYS. WE MOVED TO MERIDIAN AND THE NAMPA SIT IS ONLY ABOUT 10 MIN AWAY FROM THE HOUSE SO IT WILL BE HARD TO CHOOSE THE BOISE SITE SIMPLY FOR LOGISTAL REASONS. GIVE ME A CALL IF YOU GET A CHANCE, WOULD LIKE TO CHAT WITH YA WHEN YOU HAVE TIME. 895-8066 HM OR CELL IS 559-4351. BRIAN SHETLER 2021 E WHITE HAWK CT MERIDIAN, ID 83642

Ok... have about 25+ flights on my KMP yak, and have ironed it out.
Needed to add some weight to the nose, even with EVERYTHING but the elevator servos up front in the motor box, and the receiver just behind the wing tube. Added 2 mixes, about 4% - 6% down elevator to full throttle, and about 8% up ele with rudder. Will pretty much knife edge perfectly now, and all through the throttle range hold a straight line. After 25+ flights all is holding up.. except the landing gear plate. I noticed today that it was cracked all the way across and was a bit loose. (talk about getting luck for once). weird part is I had NO hard landings... it must have cracked from the stress of flying off of a grass runway, and the imperfections in the run way. So I'll have to do a fix this week. But now that the mixes are ironed out and such, this plane ROCKS for a $300 airframe. The DA 50 is enough to pull out of a hover, but its not a rocket on the pull out. Wish I would have kept my MVVS 58.... wouldn't have had to add any nose weight, and would have had ballistic power. Oh well... live and learn!!
