Default 2009 KIEF Indoor Fly-in!

Hey guys, in just a few weeks in the great state of Pennsylvania, the 2009 KIEF Indoor Fly-in will take place. And from what I heard about last years, it is an event that you definitely do not want to miss!

History of the Keystone Indoor Electric Fly
The First Keystone Indoor Electric Fly took place on October 18th, & 19th, 2008.
The event was held just outside of Williamsport, Pa in the Generations Sports Complex Dome, the largest air suspended dome in the country!

Many of you northeast pilots may recall that this event (KIEF) was set to take place on March 2, and 3rd 2007 in Scranton. Unfortunately the dome was
ruined in a freak snowstorm three weeks before the event. Well, we regrouped and made the move to the GSC Dome.

We are planning KIEF 2009 with a ton of flying as this fun fly will start Friday at 9 am - 11 pm, Saturday at 9 am - 11 pm and Sunday 8 am - 5 pm.
Lots of things planned from demos at noon to night flying, micro scale competitions, indoor pattern competition (F3P), seminars, vendors, combat and more.

One of the cool things about this dome (besides it’s huge size and ample pit/vendor areas) is it has two separate flying areas that are separated with a floor to ceiling net.
What does this mean? MORE FLYING! While special short events take place, pilots can still fly in the other flight area! Very little down time.

While this is not only an AMA sanctioned event it will be supported by our AMA president and district VP. We welcome Bob and Dave and hope they bring lots of planes!

So guys if you can, jump in the car and check this one out.
If you can't have no worries!

Arron "theKM" Bates will be covering the event for Flyinggiants.com.
Arron is no stranger to coverage, and tells me he is going to do a bang up job!

...preliminary investigation has indicated that there is a complete lack of corn inside the dome. I still need to get in touch with organisers to see if this situation is BYO-corn for those that need it to arrest their models.

nonetheless, should be an awesome event!

Don't need no stinking corn or boost tabs when you have NETS and Spades

A touch and go on the net, now that would beat a tail slide into the corn any day

Last year was outstanding, this is the largest dome I've ever seen, three huge separate areas to fly in. Last year the dome never closed, 24hr flying (not this year though) The micro pylon, F3P. and the topper, Combat was pure carnage.

now I'll be very open minded to the carnage and fun that net touching may have, but as a corn hucker I have to say the bar is set pretty high

By the way, if you guys are blown away by the cool creative KIEF logo and graphics, that's because it was designed by the one and only Steve "SleepyC" Cinch! Steve has been a huge supporter of the KIEF from the start and we can't thank him, Flying Giants, and RcGroups enough.

Thanks,
Mark Vukmanovich

Hey Azarr, glad to hear you'll be back again this year. What do you have in store for us this year? (Azarr won the Best Night Flight award last year with his amazing biplane.)

As for the dome, there isn't one bigger in the whole country! We're so luck to have a venue like this.

Guys if you have never had the opportunity to fly a light weight plane or heli in a huge area like this, let me tell you there's nothing like it. No wind, no rain, no cold fingers and tons of space to fly. I've flown in several gyms and I enjoy it but there's nothing like a 600ft wind-free dome to make that plane/heli come alive.

Unfortunately the Bipe didn't survive the indoor wars last year. I'm working on a new night flyer, we'll see how it turns out . Built some EPP stuff for pure survival, just got one of Donatas's Sultimate's and hope to have it done in time with a vpp set up.

Looking forward to the combat. See you all in a couple of weeks.

Sounds great Azarr. Sorry about the Bipe. I'm sure you'll whip something amazing up in time. I just added a set of lights to a MsComposits Citabria that I bought from Luke's RC at last year's Kief. I'm having a ton of fun with it and can't wait to try it in the dome.

I have a Donotas Deluxe in the basement that I plan to have finished up before the event and I also have a Sultimate on the way. Not sure I'll get that one done in time.

If you have a PZ Sukhoi and/Vapor, be sure to bring them along. We're planning some pylon racing (with both) as well as some spot landing competitions. More things up our sleeves too!

I should be hauling a Vapor if I can repair it, Sukhoi should make it, Micro3DX from Millennium RC (which rocks), EPP Yak from 3DEPP.com... and whatever else I can scare up between now and then. I'd take more, but I may need the trailer that Snap-a-saurus hauls around.
