Default Real turbine-gas biplane!

I saw that there was a biplane with a turbine and gas engine (Terry Hahn) at the XFC, but I didn't know there was a real one!

Seen it fly many times at Abbottsford International Air Show!
Awesome sight, I still remember the first time I saw that stearman accelerating in a vertical climb as I pulled into the parking lot late the first time I seen it!

I'm pretty sure it was a Waco.

Jimmy Franklin (the guy with the jet powered Waco) and Bobby Younkin had a midair at an airshow in Canada in 2006 or so. Very sad, they were two of the most talented men in aviation. They were performing in the Masters of Disaster with Jim Leroy. He landed safey, and sadly lost his life a few years later.

It was a highly modified Waco YMF-5 that Jimmy modded himself. Hahn had a vision a few years back and kept it a secret, even from me, that he had planned on a Jet Waco for an up coming XFC!!! So, over the past winter, he bought a kit from AMR, in Canada. And twisted his dad's arm into building it!!! It didn't take much twisting for Joe to do it!!!!

AUW for the model is 53.5#. Plenty of room in there for the AMA stuff!!!!

ROAR WOOSH!!!!!!

The Franklin jet WACO was not a YMF-5. It was a highly modified UPF-7. The same type airframe Jimmy's son Kyle Franklin flies in airshows now.

There is an RC version here in Australia. Built from the AMR-RC kit.

That is the same kit that the GTO Jet Waco was built from....

It is a Modded UPF-7. For some reason, I had YMF-5 on my mind......... Maybe the kit was a YMF-5, Frankensteined into the UPF-7.

Yea we modified ours from the 33% YMF-5 kit, into the UPF-7, then into the Jet Waco. Note, ours is not the 40% like the aussies.

I just wish our weight limit was higher, I would have loved to have put the Moki on it.... Oh well.
