That sucks!! I can't believe that happened. I heard Chip lost EVERYTHING, including all of his planes and trophies including the last TOC trophy. Lipos are nothing to take lightly that is for sure.

I'm sorry to hear that. I didn't like how the reporter said "plays around with radio control airplanes" and "the wires got reconfigured" they make it sound like he (Chip) had no idea what he was doing and like he was some kid playing with toys.

How truly sad.
This has been a slap in the face reminder to me about how potentially dangerous lipos can be. Over the last few years, as lipos are getting less volatile, I've been really lax when charging them and leave them unattended. Not any more.

I had a li-po burst into a flare and then burn the side of the engine box of a EF Yak. Fortunately I was right there and pulled the plane out to the yard and probably saved the garage, only burnt a patch of grass. That incident caused me to quit using li-pos.

No matter whos house, obviously a fellow modeler, my sincere condolences. Glad everyone is ok, I'm sure modelers all over are standing by to lend a hand if needed.

I talked to some people that live in Tucson and they just told me it was Chips friends house that he was staying at. I didn't want to post any names because I was not sure if it was true or not. Hopefully no one was hurt is really what matters.

That is really unfortunate. Hope everyone is OK!!! I hope the homeowners had good insurance. If so, it should cover the cost of the damage and everything inside, including the planes. I hope it wasnt anyone competeing in the TAS next weekend either. If so someone might need to loan them a plane.

Chip lost his current competition planes, as well as many planes and trophies from the past. Some trophies may have been spared that were stored elsewhere. Friends have stepped up and it looks like he'll have a very competitive plane for the Shootout., and even got some "stay loose" flights in today.

It was Chip. It was his power supply that went up in smoke, according to the fire inspector. It was not a hobby-type power supply tho so who knows if it was meant to handle the volts/amps.
